🔊 The search is on for the next IGS chapter to host one of Europe’s flagship conferences - in 2029.

Expressions of interest must be sent to the IGS Secretariat by Friday, January 31, 2025. Final bids will then be due by Friday, May 30, 2025. The winner will be chosen and announced at EuroGeo8 in Lille, France in September 2025.

' for Transport Infrastructure' was the title of a recent workshop held in Portugal, hosted by the IGS's TC-Stabilization and the ISSMGE's TC-Transportation Geotechnics (TC202).

The workshop addressed fundamental issues such as sustainable materials and construction processes for , as well as geotechnical challenges and innovations aimed at enhancing resilience and adaptability of transport assets, infrastructure, routes, networks, and systems. Presentations on the environmental advantages of using in transport projects were shared by notable IGS experts Erol Tutumluer, Jorge Zornberg and Xuecheng Bian.

This year marked the exciting debut of the competition, testing young engineers’ knowledge of in a lively quiz show format! The competition at featured live rounds, with expert geosynthetics professionals acting as quizmasters, guiding student teams through a series of heats during the conference.

Curious about what GeoJeopardy entails? It’s inspired by the classic American ! game show, flipping Q&A formats to keep contestants on their toes – they must answer with a question! For example, when prompted with “1983,” the correct response would be: “What year was the IGS established?”

The goal is to foster student engagement at events and advance geosynthetics knowledge worldwide. Any student competition that inspires interest and learning is encouraged! Interested chapters can reach out to the IGS Secretariat for guidance.
