It is so wonderful to be able to get out and enjoy a fun activity with our sweet boy! Good days are so good. We are grateful for every drop of energy, every ounce of tolerance, every giggle, every look of wonder and joy…it is hard, but more than worth it 🤍

Thanksgiving break…relaxing, recovering from so many illnesses, and snuggling the precious kittens.
I am always grateful for breaks, time to reconnect. Especially with how hectic life has been lately. But we also have to manage the dysregulation that comes with leaving the everyday structure. A neurospicey household over here! But we wouldn’t have it any other way 🤍

Taking a moment of appreciation for the man that holds us all together🤍 papa bear, dad, hey daddddd…the greatest father my children could ever have. Nothing in our lives would function without him. He works full time and is a full time caretaker. He lives up to every single promise he’s ever made.
We love you, papa bear. Through it all, for all of our infinity🖤

It was such a delight to see my little man able to join in the Halloween festivities with other kids his age.
All things medical have kept him from so many “normal” kid experiences. So seeing him think through his costume, wander from house to house with friends collecting Halloween treats- it was a breath of fresh air for the whole family. Hope you had a wickedly fun day as well 🤍

Sawyer had the epic opportunity to be a virtual VIP this weekend at the Formula One US Grand Prix event this weekend!
He got to use our computer to drive a robot around the paddock, speak to drivers, drive on the track in a special lane they designated for their virtual VIPs, drive over in to the pit to visit the pit crew and see their work up close. Hang out on the side at have a front row seat for the parade! We even saw Prince Harry walk by several times!
The robot is a spinoff of the iPad on a stand, but made for an F1 track. It was SO cool. Sawyer is a certified crazy driver 😂
He had an awesome tour guide assigned to him who taught us a lot about the events, the different teams, and how the Grand Prix works at the ground level.
It is incredible to see these hugely popular sports organizations work this hard to include disabled and hospital or home bound kiddos. What a way to earn a new generation of fans! And thanks to Dell Childrens child life team for including us! It was a thrill!

To all the other parents watching over their chronically ill babies…the one laying on the pretend couch bed offered to you, exhausted to the bone but unable to sleep because you’re watching monitors. There are incredible nurses also watching the monitors from outside. But they haven’t spent almost 9 years fighting for this child’s health, they can’t know what every breath and every movement means.
I see you. I’m right there with you. Wanting to be anywhere else with your child, but you’ll never be anywhere but by their side- fighting to figure anything out for them.
I see you. And you are not alone🤍

ZOEY!! Pet therapy has finally resumed after being removed during Covid. We had the delight of being visited by this sweetie this morning! She’s the same age as Sawyer, and her favorite snack is bananas!
As days pass in hospital rooms your mood and mental health often sink without you noticing. All of your normal coping mechanisms aren’t available, you can’t be outside, it takes 5 people to unplug Sawyer enough just to get to the bathroom!
Our moods were both instantly lifted when Zoey wandered in and wanted to share Sawyer’s breakfast. We are forever thankful for the pet therapy animals and handlers, child life specialists, art therapists and music therapists. You shine a beautiful light into these tough spaces.

Hospital Daze ☀️
Sawyer had it right this morning. He said “You know, there is something about the hospital that sucks all the energy out of you. It’s an energy black hole…”
Sawyer is on a monitor that goes all the way in to his brain, and has a wire sticking out…so he’s been adjusting to that! And making some hilarious jokes about picking up signals and becoming a robot.
His strength and joy is contagious. We’ve had friends from all over the hospital visiting today and he’s always ready with a joke/prank for them. Today he actually asked me if he was famous 💁🏻‍♀️ I love it so much. The kind of confidence we all need!
So turns out recovering from brain surgery is far more painful than many other things. So we have been trying to find the balance between the safety of being here and also begging to go home.
I couldn’t possibly be more proud of this guy. He’s my superhero 🖤

The day is here- our wild and sweet boy is currently in surgery. Neurosurgery. We are used to all the sights and sounds in the hospital. We know much of the staff by name. It’s a day in the life for us…except the Neurosurgery part has heaped on some extra anxiety.
Sawyer has been experiencing extremely painful symptoms for most of the year now, and this is another in the line of endless attempts to find and correct the problem. Whatever it is has caused constant pain and vision loss. So send all the good energy that we are able to fix it for him soon 🤍
