Happy World Immunization Week! For over 200 years, vaccines have protected us against diseases that have hindered our development. Vaccines continue to advance, and they are even more important now in the fight against COVID-19. Vaccines bring us closer to protecting everyone against preventable diseases and closer to a healthier future. Pharmacists play in important role in disease prevention through vaccinations for the public. Every day, our pharmacists are saving millions of lives by providing quick and easy access to vaccinations. During this year’s World Immunization Week (April 24-30th), share the importance of vaccinations to family and friends and show how they improve the health of everyone, everywhere throughout life.

For April, our Member Spotlight is Cynthia Glover! She has been consistently participative in CAPA events, and we appreciate the active involvement. Get to know more about her below:

What area of pharmacy do you practice?
I have been in hospital pharmacy for 20 years.
Currently, I am a Director - Pharmacy at Ascension Texas/SETON (a 13 hospital Healthcare system) in hospital pharmacy management. I have 4 small hospitals to be responsible for, in the Central Texas area.

Why did you choose pharmacy?
I really wanted to serve my community by adding value to the wellness of patients with safe and effective medication management. More recently, I love the innovation of process improvement and successful metric driven work and I also appreciate the intertwined ethics in the field of pharmacy.

What is your favorite part about CAPA?
I love the CAPA community. I am working in hospital pharmacy now but I have been in independent pharmacy and even retail at the beginning of my career. I am a lifelong learner and I enjoy the education at both CAPA and AASHP. I am a member of both because it all supports our profession.

What are your hobbies?
I love to read and work in my yard. I love to be outside on the weekends and take my dog to parks and on walks. I am an avid meditator and enjoy scripture reading. I recently enjoy Pure Barre class and the flexibility and strength it builds in me - I love to challenge myself!

I totally enjoy being a preceptor at Ascension Texas for the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) at UT College of Pharmacy for the Institution rotations each summer.

This month, our member spotlight is Ellie Studdard! Ellie has contributed a lot to CAPA as the Program Director, so thank you for all that you do! Get to know more about her below:

What area of pharmacy do you practice?
I work in independent, community pharmacy at Tarrytown Pharmacy here in Austin.

Why did you choose pharmacy?
I have wanted to be a pharmacist since high school and have always loved the fact that pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare providers in the community.

What is your favorite part about CAPA?
I love that CAPA has helped broaden my professional network and allowed me to meet so many other pharmacists in the Austin area. I also enjoy all the educational programs that help keep me up to date on new drugs.

What are your hobbies?
In my free time, I am an avid reader and love to ride my Peloton. I am also a "foodie" and love to try new restaurants (when we aren't in a pandemic) and like to spend time outdoors with my husband and our two dachshunds.
