AAUW - Austin Branch Your membership makes AAUW’s powerful voice even stronger on critical issues affecting women and girls.

AAUW-Austin is a local branch of the nationwide AAUW community, which includes more than 150,000 members and supporters from all walks of life who advise, mentor, and support one another. Membership in the American Association of University Women (AAUW), founded in 1881, is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent (RN), baccalaureate, or higher degree from a regionally-accredited college or university. Student affiliation is open to anyone who does not already hold an undergraduate degree and is enrolled in a two- or four-year regionally accredited educational institution. Students enrolled at AAUW College-University partner institutions (in Austin: The University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward’s University and Austin Community College) are eligible for free, national e-student affiliation and can receive great AAUW benefits! Roscoe got behind or perhaps I did. I know you are registered, but have you made a voting plan? If you are going to the polls, seriously consider early voting. If you are voting by mail, get it in the post as soon as possible or take it to the drop box.
The Travis Couty Elections office will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until early voting begins.
Once early voting begins, hours will expand to the times listed below:
Oct. 13 - Nov. 1: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday - Saturday; 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday
Nov. 2: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Nov. 3: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Voters may only hand-deliver their own carrier envelope, must present an acceptable form of ID, will be asked to sign a signature roster, and will then deposit their mail-in ballot into a ballot box.

When the branch public policy committee created its plan “GOTV: FROM THE SILENT GENERATION TO GENERATION Z” and asked every member to do at least one thing to get out the vote by October 19, the first day of early voting, we were hopeful for a big response. We definitely got it, and we still have a week to go! Writing postcards to voters has been a popular action. On Friday alone, a dedicated group met at a branch library and wrote 400 postcards!
Branch member Ruth Subramanian has been writing cards with the Sierra Club to potential voters in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. To make the cards as appealing as possible, the writers printed their message in both English and Spanis

Culture and Cuisine, an interest group of the Austin Branch, enjoyed a seven-course Italian meal prepared by hosts Roberta Coffin, Ann Gibbs, and Leslie Curtin. The food was delicious, but even more wonderful were the conversations we had about how food, culture, and politics were all intertwined and related during the time of Mussolini.

On Saturday, we enjoyed an excellent presentation by Laura Minnigerode of Texas Gun Sense. The organization advocates for preventing gun violence and other gun tragedies in Texas. Laura shared their successes and challenges with us. We left the meeting inspired to do more to support Texas Gun Sense's mission and stop gun violence in Texas.
