Every Texan At Every Texan, we believe that social justice requires public policy. We are formerly known as the Center for Public Policy Priorities.

We believe this new name, Every Texan, better reflects who we are and our social justice vision for Texas. Our policy solutions and advocacy rely on high-quality data collected from credible sources and developed independently. We draw on a 35-year history of advancing social justice in Texas. Ever since the Benedictine Sisters of Boerne, Texas founded us, we have pursued our vision of a more equitable Texas

Reagan’s Story

For Reagan, SNAP was a stepping stone. SNAP helped her and her mom put food on the table when she was a child. Then while working part-time and attending college, SNAP helped her focus on her studies without worrying about whether she would have enough to eat.

Today, Reagan is a college graduate. Her story shows why SNAP matters, especially as access continues to decline. In Texas, 53% of people who lost SNAP between July 2025 and July 2026 were children.

“SNAP was definitely a blessing.”

🏠 Texas needs a real strategy for housing affordability.

On Sept. 2, Every Texan’s Shannon Halbrook testified before the Senate Local Government Committee on housing affordability.

Here’s what the testimony highlights:

• 84% of Texans are very or somewhat concerned about the cost of housing

• More than half of Texas renters are housing-cost-burdened

• Building more housing can help—but deregulation alone won’t solve the affordability crisis for everyone

• Texas can do more to invest in affordable housing, including rental assistance, down-payment assistance, and other programs that help Texans afford homes.

✨ Meet one of our 2026 Legacy Celebration honorees: Barbara Hines!

On October 22, we’ll celebrate Barbara’s extraordinary legacy and decades of leadership in immigration law and her role in the passage of the Texas Dream Act.

Barbara founded and directed the University of Texas School of Law’s Immigration Clinic and has practiced immigration law since 1975. Her landmark legal and policy victories have shaped the field—and her greatest legacy may be the generations of advocates she has inspired along the way. In fact, two of Every Texan’s leaders are former students of Barbara’s and continue to call her a mentor today. 💙

We’re honored to celebrate Barbara and the lasting impact she has made on the fight for a more just Texas.

30 years ago, Executive Director Parisa Fatehi-Weeks first walked into Girls State as a high school junior—a program that empowers the next generation of leaders to step into hands-on experiences in government, public service, and civic engagement.

That summer, former Texas Governor Ann Richards spoke, and the lessons stayed with Parisa ever since.

This year, she had the full-circle honor of returning to Girls State to give the keynote fireside chat to the next generation of young leaders! đź’™
