Congratulations to the Leadership Westlake Class of 2026! 🎓

Friday, we celebrated an incredible group of leaders at the Q2 Westlake Community Luncheon as they officially graduated from Leadership Westlake!🥳 Over the past year, this class built connections, explored our community, strengthened their leadership skills, and grew together in meaningful ways.

When you join next year’s Leadership Westlake class, you gain behind-the-scenes access to the ideas, people, and places shaping the future of Central Texas.

🔁Last week's Tourism & Economic Development Day 🌆✨
The class heard from renowned economistn Angelos Angelou of AngelouEconomics, followed by a dynamic regional panel featuring Bastrop County Economic Development, Williamson County Economic Development, and Hays Caldwell Economic Development Partnership—led by Glenn Hart of LinkedGlenn.

From there, the class explored some of the region’s most impactful projects and institutions, including Waterloo Greenway, the expansion of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the history and economic impact of SXSW, Frank Denius Family UT Athletics Hall of Fame, and CapMetro — before wrapping at Hotel Viata with a Champagne toast to celebrate the year. 🥂

🔁 Rewind to Public Safety Day 🚔🚒
Public Safety Day was a powerful example of the way our community ticks. From an inspiring conversation with Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez to hands-on experiences with our region’s first responders, this day captured what the program is all about: connection, insight, and leadership in action.
👏 Thank you to Travis County Sheriff's Office, Westlake Fire-EMS Department, TEXSAR Texas Search and Rescue, CTECC Combined Transportation Emergency Communications Center, American Red Cross Serving Central and South Texas, and our local Chiefs from City of Rollingwood, Texas, City of West Lake Hills, and Eanes ISD for an unforgettable experience.

Behind the scenes at the Texas Legislature 🏛️
During Leadership Westlake Government Day, our class had the opportunity to observe a dynamic panel discussion led by Rob Johnson, Chief Strategist at Johnson Strategies. The panel offered valuable insight into the operations of legislative offices, how policy is formed, and why these processes matter to communities across Texas.

A seasoned Republican strategist with more than two decades of experience at the state and federal levels, Rob brings deep expertise in public relations, traditional and digital media, and political campaigns.

Rob was joined by outstanding panelists: Laramie Stroud, Chief of Staff for Texas House Representative Drew Darby, and Shane Bridwell, Chief of Staff for Texas Senator Donna Campbell. Their firsthand perspectives gave our class a deeper understanding of leadership, strategy, and the real-world impact of public service.

During Leadership Westlake Government Day, our class had the opportunity to visit Raise Your Hand Texas, a statewide, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to strengthening public education by engaging Texans in advocacy, community leadership, and public policy solutions that support Texas’ 5.5 million public school students. Their work empowers communities to understand education issues, engage lawmakers, and champion thriving public schools across the state.

A heartfelt thank-you to Mario Piña, Senior Regional Advocacy Director for the Greater Austin area, for sharing his time, expertise, and passion for public education. Your meeting space and beautiful view of the Capitol is so appreciated!

⚖️During Leadership Westlake Government Day, our class had the unique opportunity to visit the Supreme Court of Texas, where we learned how the Court serves as the highest civil court in the state, shaping Texas law by reviewing complex legal cases, resolving important legal questions, and ensuring justice is applied fairly and consistently across our communities.

We were honored to hear from Blake A. Hawthorne, Clerk of the Supreme Court of Texas, who provided an inside look at the Court’s role, operations, and the vital responsibility it holds in interpreting and upholding Texas law. This experience gave our class meaningful insight into how judicial leadership impacts every Texan.

Leadership in action! 🏛️✨
Our Leadership Westlake Government Day kicked off with an inspiring first stop: meeting with our local government leaders. The class had the opportunity to visit with James Vaughan, Mayor of the City of West Lake Hills, and Gavin Massingill, Mayor of Rollingwood. The morning also included a tour of the brand new West Lake Hills Hall with City Administrator Trey Fletcher.

Government Day gives our class a unique opportunity to see leadership in real time. From local city halls to the Texas State Capitol and courts, our class gained firsthand insight into how decisions are made, how laws are applied, and how public service directly shapes our communities. These experiences bring civics to life and provide meaningful perspective on leadership at every level.
