Donald Trump thinks nuclear war is a joke:
It’s not a joke. This “button” measuring contest could spell life or death for millions of people.
It’s impossible to overstate how dangerous nuclear weapons are, or just how close Trump is bringing the world to nuclear war. We have to mobilize now and force Congress to rein in Trump’s launch authority before he takes us over the edge. So why are many elected officials sitting silently on the sidelines while he puts the American people -- and the world -- in harm’s way?

With North and South Korea taking the steps toward diplomatic talks for the first time in years, yesterday’s outrageous tweet is precisely the wrong move from Trump. The fact that his schoolyard taunt is backed up by virtually limitless power to launch nuclear weapons means it must be taken seriously. For our elected officials to not stand up and defend us from this clear and present danger is the height of negligence.
We need you to call your members of Congress today and get them on record about Trump’s nuclear launch authority. Every call they receive will ratchet up the pressure to get off the sidelines and take action that reins in this threat. With the midterm elections fast approaching, now is the moment to let our elected officials know that we’re prepared to hold them accountable at the ballot box.
Congress has a slew of options to rein in Trump’s nuclear authority in reasonable ways. The “Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act,” currently circulating in both houses, is a prime example of a common sense way for senators and representatives to put an end to this madness. So why aren’t our elected officials doing their job and fighting to keep us safe? Let’s stand up, speak out, and change that.
