The Texas School for the Deaf Foundation (TSDF) supports students at the Texas School for the Deaf by funding programs and resources that help them learn, grow, and belong. In 2000, Texas School for the Deaf Foundation (TSDF) was founded by a small group of dedicated individuals who wanted to enrich the programming made available to the children and families served by the Texas School for the Deaf

. The goal was to augment TSD’s already excellent curriculum by providing new educational opportunities and resources that would deepen the language skills and broaden the possibilities for the deaf population of Texas. ‘

Today, TSDF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors that sets the direction for the organization and monitors financial and operational performance. Our board is a cross-section of citizens who serve as TSDF’s ambassadors to other agencies, funders, prospective donors and the general community with the goal of supporting Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) and its statewide partners in education.

More than a scholarship.

The Ruth Taubert Seeger Scholarship honors leadership, perseverance, and commitment—on and off the track. Ruth believed her students could accomplish anything. She challenged them to lead, to grow, and to carry that confidence far beyond graduation.

This recognition reflects that same belief. It is not just about athletic achievement. It is about character. It is about opportunity. It is about becoming.

As one of TSD’s legacy scholarship opportunities, it helps recognize and encourage young women during a pivotal moment in their journey.

A legacy of strength. Ruth Taubert Seeger was a pioneer, an athlete, a coach, and a mentor who changed what was possible for Deaf women at Texas School for the Deaf.

She was the first American woman to compete in the World Games for the Deaf, built girls’ athletic programs at TSD, and spent 37 years helping students believe in their own potential—on and off the field.

Her impact was never just about medals. It was about confidence, leadership, and showing young women they could accomplish anything.

Today, her legacy lives on through one of TSD’s meaningful scholarship opportunities—the Ruth Taubert Seeger Scholarship, honoring the next generation of student-athletes and leaders.

Right now, it looks like dirt, shovels, and construction. 🚜

Soon, it will look like laughter at recess, friendships after class, and students communicating freely with one another in ASL—the language that feels like home.

It's ! Last August, the TSD community came together to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Robert Rives Gym—a space built for students to move, compete, and grow. Named after Robert Rives, an alumnus, educator, and coach who dedicated decades to TSD, this space carries forward a legacy rooted in opportunity and student life.
