Zehra Education Trust (or simply Zehra Trust) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization which is striving to promote formal school education in Pakistan. Education remains an unfulfilled promise to millions of Pakistani children. Many parents cannot afford to send their kids to school and instead are left with no choice but to have them to start working. The organization identifies children w
ho are going to public schools and cannot meet their education expenses because of financial hardships. It provides them monthly stipend, while making sure that they secure good grades.Once this happens, they are less likely to drop out before completing their studies. The organization was established with a small donation of Rupees 50,000 by Ms. Kaneez Zehra and with the help of her daughter, Ms. Kaneez Syedda, was registered as a Non-Gevernmental Organization (NGO) on 14th November 1987. Since its inception about 25 years ago, the trust has helped about 1250 children, with a total disbursing of rupees 0.8 million. This has improved the lives of many families. Every year, around 50 students get financial help. On an average, a student gets 200-500 rupees ($2-$5) per month depending upon his or her grade or class. Every year, many students apply for scholarship from the trust, however, due to the paucity of funds, many deserving candidates have to be denied.
