PLEASE SHARE WIDELY IN AUSTIN.
CASTING CALL: My grad TV Writers Room class at UT has written a multi-cam sitcom and a production class is shooting four episodes of it. There are TWO REHEARSALS and TWO SHOOT NIGHTS performed in front of an audience in April. (Possibility for a couple more rehearsals for certain characters if needed for some pre-tapes.) WE ARE ESPECIALLY SEEKING WOMEN FOR TONIA. This is unpaid, but it's a short commitment and a good experience for acting in a multi-cam. Theater actors strongly encouraged to audition, physical comedy a huge plus. Also, it will be fun!
You can apply via Backstage (https://www.backstage.com/casting/the-aquanauts-2787775/) or email me directly (NOT FB!) at [email protected]. Auditions in person in Austin, self-tapes also allowed if you're unable to make auditions.
Casting "The Aquanauts." This multi-cam sitcom follows a group of quirky rejects consigned to a deep sea research lab must carry out their research and get along, even though no one cares about them and they’re always overshadowed by the International Space Station.
This four-episode production is for a Multi-Cam TV Directing class in conjunction with a Writer's Room class at the University of Texas at Austin. We will be filming the first four episodes of the series with a live studio audience.
Mark/Mike
Lead. Male. 30-50
The relatively new director of the W.U.S.S., an underwater research facility, Mark is determined to turn the submarine station into something prestigious despite his lack of knowledge about the ocean. He's insecure but covers it up with bravado. He's obsessed with one-upping his famous astronaut brother, Mike. Actor should have strong comedic timing and be comfortable with slapstick performance. The actor who plays Mark will also play Mike, who is only seen in video messages from the International Space Station (ISS). Mike is an arrogant jerk who loves to taunt Mark.

Beck
Lead. Gender-Nonconforming, Non-Binary. 16-20
Gender: Non-binary (they/them). Beck is the non-binary 17-year-old nibling of Mark and child of Mike. They are living on the submarine station to avoid the NASA Foster Home, and generally hate it there. Beck is a little nerdy and obsessed with a romantic fantasy book series.
Note: Parents or guardians are welcome, but not required, for any minors who are auditioning. Minimum age requirement is 16 years. Filming will be limited between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. on any given day, so no actor will be on set for more than four hours at a time.

Billy
Lead. Male. 20-35
Ethnicity: Open, preference for Latinx. Former boy genius who hates his job on the W.U.S.S. Though he was a celebrated prodigy as a child, he eventually became a mediocre scientist. He’s half-assing it, and he just got this post because it seemed like he could hide and not do any work but still get paid. His cynicism and apathy are challenged by Lina’s positivity.
Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
Required Skills:
Comedy: Physical Comedy
Lina
Lead. Female. 20-35
Ethnicity: Open, preference for Asian/Asian-American. An idealist and energetic whale linguist who joins the sub. She loves all things sparkly and she crochets constantly. Lina wasn’t on the same level of genius as Billy, but they did go to some international smart-kid events when they were both younger. She tries to encourage both Billy and Beck however she can, and she tends to get on Aurora and Tonia’s nerves.
Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
Tonia
Lead. Female. 40-60
Ethnicity: Open, preference for African American. Former Marine and the maintenance person for the research station. Tonia knows more about the submarine than anyone else and has many secrets. She's gruff, no-nonsense, and skilled at fixing things.

Helen Degenerate
Lead. 30-50
Voice actor. Helen Degenerate is the irreverent host of a popular daytime talk show. Confident, quick-witted, and unapologetically mean.
