Haku yila’,

We hope that this newsletter reaches y’all in good spirits and health as Love is Human makes way for the month of February. We have some new initiatives to cultivate our community ties through collective knowledge sharing starting with this update about our partner venues, programs, events, and even our now established “Advocate Spotlight” of the Month.

It’s important to share our stories as well as our labor and knowledge with the community, and this month we’d like to introduce one of our partnership advocates that has really been blazing some trails, 💕💐

Even when times are tough, Love is Human will always push for sanctuary and love to uplift our community. For those in our community currently, know that we hear you and see you. We promise to continue fighting for more opportunities for more performers, creatives, and entrepreneurs of the community while adhering to our current compensation rate of $150 per performance with gas money included if you’ve travelled to Austin for one of our shows. This community means the world to us whether it be here in Austin or any of the surrounding cities and towns, and we don’t plan on going anywhere!

In response to the current regime,

We here at Love is Human choose to continue standing with the people. All operations for today have been cancelled as a result, and we will continue to boycott & advocate alongside the community until changes are made and this genocide in the nation ends.

The children of your cages have begun to riot, the families of these children are protesting in the streets, and the community of Austin will NOT stand by as more and more friends and familiar faces are removed from our city just to face the concentration camps that were originally created to imprison and murder the Indigenous American communities of this land. Now, the doors are open again, our generation will never fall in line as long as our hearts still beat, our voices still sing, and our bodies have strength.

Keep ICE out of this city, contact your local congressional and city offices for some accountability, and make this city safe again for all who believe in love, faith, and humanity. And in response to the ICE officer who asked if we have learned yet, the people of this land have learned. Learned to not take this tyranny, this abuse, or this blatant hatred. The real question is, have you learned that the more you kick us down, the more we’ll rise back up again just to remind you of your selfishness and blackened heart with faulty remarks of humanity.

Love is Human and we will always stand against hate 💕

Workshop Sessions of 2026

Love is Human this year will be hosting weekly programming starting February 9th 💕 This includes various workshops, trainings, and other knowledge advancing opportunities.

“I know I personally have been receiving a lot of feedback and requests for workshops this last year, so I’ve decided to deliver this year. 2026 will be a new era of collective learning for Love is Human with workshops inspired by our partnership advocates that work hard to create new events for the community while advocating and encouraging local support.” -Aaron Barba, Executive Director

This means anything from graphic design, photography, videography, makeup for creatives, improv art with emotions, group vocal lessons, group writing sessions, group production meet ups, software development lessons, community gardening and foraging, and so much more. Eventually, we’ll need more people to join in our mission for longer hours of operation for these programs, but for now, part of our board will lead the charge.

“I’m most looking forward to sharing valuable knowledge with our community that hopefully helps them grow and thrive. These workshops are a great opportunity for advancing your career, your small business, or just adding value to your daily life. No matter your age or educational background, it is always good to continue learning new knowledge throughout your life.” -Michael Kovacevich, Owner of Love Riot Studios

Join us for the Workshop Sessions Spring 2026 starting February 9th-May 31st via email, text message, or DM our team on Instagram 💕

(P.S. If you are a member of the community with mentorship, teaching, or coaching experience and are interested in helping others, please DM us directly for a meeting)

“Abel Koury is an emerging artist whose work centers the body as a site of tension, becoming, and lived inquiry. Through bold colors and brushwork, his paintings explore what it means to inhabit a body in and out of alignment, pushing against inherited ideas of masculinity, femininity, and form. Brushstrokes are meant to convey urgency, as if bursting through the seams of constraint in search of release and presence. Rooted in a q***r and trans lens, the work invites viewers to feel embodiment rather than resolve it, privileging sensation over certainty. Koury’s work asks not for answers, but for attention to the body as it is lived, negotiated, and continually re-made. And how it owes us no apology for that.”

Ashley Lazarz

“Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, I paint through movement, usually dancing, getting lost in music, and allowing instinct to lead. I’m drawn to what’s messy, fleeting, and unresolved. I paint to release pain and to capture moments of joy, love, and presence. Through vulnerability, my work opens space for connection and shared emotional dialogue.”
