You see ALICE every day — but you may not realize it.

In Texas, 43 % of workers are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). They care for children, stock shelves, prepare meals, assist customers, and keep our communities running. They earn above the Federal Poverty Level, yet still struggle to afford the basics like housing, childcare, food, transportation, and health care.

ALICE is the backbone of Texas communities — from our workplaces and schools to our places of worship, civic organizations, and neighborhood events. Yet too often, their financial challenges remain invisible.

The latest State of ALICE in Texas report, developed in partnership with United For ALICE, sheds light on the realities facing working households across the state and in counties throughout Texas.

ALICE is everywhere in Texas. Let's make sure ALICE is seen.

Data helps us better understand communities, anticipate challenges, and make smarter decisions that strengthen impact across Texas 💡📊🌟 That’s why we were proud to partner for last week's Texas Demographic Conference, where leaders from across sectors gathered to explore the demographic and socioeconomic trends shaping our state’s future.

OneStar co-led a session on the state of Texas nonprofit sector alongside United Ways of Texas exploring the size and impact of the sector and examining the economic realities facing low-income households. These insights equipped attendees with context to inform strategy, advocacy, and resource development.

For nonprofits, staying informed about emerging demographic trends is essential: it allows us to serve communities with greater precision and responsiveness while helping organizations adapt to Texas’ rapidly evolving landscape. Thank you to the Texas Demographic Center for hosting this important convening and for recognizing the critical role nonprofits play in strengthening communities across our state 💙

Today, on International Day of Families, we recognize the strength, resilience, and importance of families in every Texas community.

Yet far too many hardworking families are living paycheck to paycheck. Through the ALICE initiative (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), United Ways across Texas are shining a light on the households that earn above the federal poverty line but still struggle to afford basic necessities like housing, child care, food, transportation, and health care.

Every family deserves the opportunity to thrive, not just survive. Together, we can build stronger systems and stronger communities that support financial stability for all Texans 💛
