Scholar Spotlight: Congratulations to Cale Watkins, a John Sealy School of Medicine MD student selected for the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons (SOMOS) E. Anthony Rankin Scholarship.
As a Rankin Scholar, he has completed an immersive training experience at a military medical center. Mr. Watkins spent his summer in Bethesda, Maryland, at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The scholarship provides underrepresented medical students exposure to orthopedic surgery in the military setting.
Mr. Watkins, who is also a scholar in the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) at UTMB, said the experience was motivating in his pursuit of orthopedics. By connecting with other medical students in orthopedic surgery, he found a sense of community and support. In Behalf on JAMP, Great work, Mr. Watkins!
