Register for the Junior Master Gardeners by June 9! Youth will learn about plant science by growing their own vegetables and participating in other hands-on gardening activities. Youth will also use their own produce to create healthy snack recipes to help them learn about nutrition and health & wellness.

We are excited to partner with Riverland Community College to offer the Agriculture and Food Science Exploration (AFSE) Day on July 8 and July 9! This program is open to youth in grades 6+. Participants will learn about how agriculture, food, nutrition and health are all connected. Youth will explore careers in agronomy, animal science, and food science by participating in engaging tours and hands-on learning labs. Join us for a hands on Sheep Showmanship Clinic on Saturday, June 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Goat Barn on the Mower County Fairgrounds. This clinic is designed to help younger exhibitors build confidence and improve their skills in the show ring! Participants are encouraged to bring their own sheep so they can learn directly with the animal they will be showing. We will cover basic showmanship, fitting and grooming techniques, and handling skills. This clinic is a great opportunity for young showmen to learn. RSVP at https://z.umn.edu/sheepclinic

Hello everyone!! My name is Isabelle Brumm, I am from Stacyville, Iowa. I am the summer intern for Mower County Extension office this summer. A little bit about me, I will be a junior at Iowa State University majoring in Agricultural Communications. My future career goals is to work at a county extension office and serve as a C*C (county youth coordinator), allowing me to work with youth and increase their involvement in 4-H. I was heavily involved in my local 4-H chapter by showing dairy cattle and bring a variety of static projects, and I loved it! I was also involved in my high school's FFA program, which is also focused on leadership and agriculture involvement. I was to give the youth same experience I had. I grew up on a dairy farm, and I am on the youngest of four children. When I have free time I enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends. I have worked at my community daycare for the past six years, and I love working with kids. I feel like working at a county extension office would allow me to engage with youth programs, and would provide valuable experience in community outreach, leadership, and educational programs. I am excited to see what this summer will bring!
