✨Don't forget to apply for the PROMISE Act Grant! Through a partnership with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation will award $1.3 million in competitive grants to businesses in southern Minnesota to invest in existing operations or planned growth.

Grant awards will range from $10,000 to $50,000 and can be used for working capital to support payroll expenses, rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, equipment, and other similar expenses that occur in the regular course of business.

💰Last week was week 3 of the How To Start A Business cohort, and we got real about the numbers. Students learned how to estimate startup costs, set pricing, and forecast revenue. We explored funding options like self-funding, loans, and grants, and broke down what financial forecasting really means (hello, cashflow and profit/loss!).

During the work session, students used the Startup Cost and Financial Forecast Worksheets to begin building out the Financial Plan section of their business plan. It wasn’t just about crunching numbers, it was about creating a financial roadmap to support a sustainable, successful business. 💼

Week 2 recap of our How To Start A Business Cohort! 📝

This week, our entrepreneurs-in-the-making started pulling it all together, taking the customer insights and market research from Week 1 and plugging them into the early sections of their business plans.

We broke down the purpose of a business plan, explored key components like the executive summary, mission, and services, and discussed how to integrate real research and data to tell a compelling story.

With mentor support and focused work time, ideas are officially becoming structured plans!
