They traveled from The Old Settlers Association northeast to Copeland Quarry in Hutto and managed to capture a beautiful reflection when flying over a pond. “The Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett, created in 1906, is the world’s oldest and most prestigious aeronautical competition. This world championship of long-distance gas balloon flight brings together the best gas balloon pilots each year in a race with a simple but demanding goal: to cover the greatest possible distance from the launch area, without any intermediate landings.

Pilots must navigate with precision, considering air currents, weather conditions and ballast optimization to fly as far as possible.”

The three teams representing the USA are also representing Texas! Our CTBA members Brenda & Cheri, are co-piloting for two different teams (USA 1 & USA 2), and John (USA 3) is from the Houston/Arlington area. Go USA! 🇺🇸 Go Texas!!

The launch site is in Metz France & starts TODAY, Friday, Sept 5th! The balloons started preparing for launch at 2am CST/9am local time & the first competition balloon launches at noon CST/7pm local.
