BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE, TEXAS! We’re expecting a winter storm this weekend. ❄️

In Texas, it is ILLEGAL to leave a pet outside in extreme weather without adequate shelter, food, and water. This includes cruelty to non-livestock animals and unlawful restraint of a dog. Some cities also have specific ordinances to protect pets in extreme weather conditions.

Please continue to document and report to your local law enforcement and animal personnel if you see dogs being kept outside as Texas continues to move through this winter storm.

So sad.....
We have all seen the devastation in Kerr County (Kerrville), Texas and are overwhelmed with the number of videos, photos and news reports. It goes without saying the incredible amount of grief and emotional impact on us. Many of the dogs (+ other pets and animals) are in shock and in need of veterinary care. Numerous rescue organizations and volunteers are relocating the existing shelter dogs to other areas in Central Texas to make room for the locals. Needless to say, tireless work for everyone. We probably don’t even begin to understand the many facets involved in an operation of this magnitude.

TSRF recognizes the need for a financial donation as news reports indicate they have plenty of food, crates and other supplies that have been donated. Our donation to two organizations currently on the frontlines who have had and will continue to have significant impact is apparent. TSRF donated to several organizations during Hurricane Katrina and we are sure our supporters will agree with our donations to help with this tremendous need. If you would like to make a donation to either of these organizations through TSRF, please make a designation note. Mercy is available and is looking for her new furever home!
Read her story below and also check out the FB page for WSRH to read about Robinson and Mairead who are also looking for their furever home!

Three Scotties available, wow that is just so unusual! Normally, there are so many adopters and not enough Scotties! Here is your chance! Easy Peasy to just click this link for the application on the TSRF website: https://www.texasscottierescue.com/adoption-application

Oh Mercy…. another Scottie!

We often hear “Scotties are rare in rescue,” and maybe that’s true, but we currently are swimming in Scotties that are in need of special homes. Could one be with you?

You already met Robinson and Mairead, so let’s introduce you to Mercy!

Mercy is an energetic girl who is 3 years old and weighs around 24 lbs. She loves toys and to play ball but, like many others, she is picky about the people and dogs in her life. Mercy needs an all-adult home with no children under 12 and will need to meet everyone in the household before she goes home.

Mercy would do best in a home with a fenced backyard and a neighborhood for walks. Apartment living would be too stressful for Mercy.

If you think Mercy is the girl for you, apply online at wsrh.com

DID WE MENTION THE YARD SALE IS INSIDE IN THE AIR CONDITIONING!!!

Still looking for a few volunteers....contact Linda Bassett if you would like to volunteer.
A few important things to know:
1) No Scotties allowed for this event. Sorry, YMCA rules.
2) We have (some) boxes and packing materials for you but ok to bring your own box or bag.
3) Parking may be at a premium so be prepared to park and walk?
4) Sadly, we cannot accept donations the day of the Yard Sale. We will all be very busy and do not have the time to price and sort them.

APPLICATIONS CLOSED—Thanks, Scottie Friends. There are plenty of apps for the boys. They will have homes soon.

Carson (left) and Chase (right) Are Ready for Homes—They are two peas in a pod! Not often does Scottie Rescue have puppies available. Carson and Chase are brothers from a litter of seven wheaten males that North Texas Scottie Rescue has been raising after their mother rejected them. Margy Tucker hand fed them around the clock at first and calls them The Busy Boys.

Margy was their Mom! Lots of belly rubs and puppy burps. It will be bitter sweet for her to watch the Magnificent Seven go. The litter was an accident, and the former owners were overwhelmed. NTSR was on top of the need. For more information on the puppies, e-mail Margy Tucker at [email protected]. Submit applications at texasscottierescue.com and specify, “The Wheaten Boys.” We will forward applications to NTSR.

Carson and Chase are three months old, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Margy says they are sweet and loving. Like we said, they are Busy! Margy wants two homes where there will be another dog to play with them. Chase has more red in his coat, and could be considered a red wheaten Scottie.

In-state applicants are preferred. Applicants must come to Dallas/Fort Worth to pick up puppies. However, Margy is willing to drive as far as the Waco area to meet an adopter. Incidentally, Texas Scottie Rescue Fund paid veterinary treatment for mastitis and ear infections of The Busy Boys’ mom.

It is seriously scary out there if you are looking for a Scottie puppy! We hear about scammers all the time so yes, please be aware and be sure you know who you are dealing with. TSRF has a list of recommended breeders in Texas that we can send to you, just let us know!

To quote Erica Cerny of Scottish Terrier Rescue of Greater New York: "There are plenty of other red flags that you are dealing with a puppy mill or a scammer. More going on now than ever. Keep your eyes open and ask someone who is reputable if you’re not sure and before giving them any money. STCA.biz lists both Scottie breeders and rescuers under ‘Find A Scottie’. Most national breed clubs do as well."

The Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Houston has a list of breeders and a very good article on their website by TSRF Board Member Emeritus, Carole Owen. https://www.stcgh.net/looking-for-a-scottie
