Don't you agree? 🤷

Protecting childhood is about more than ensuring children have a safe, supported home - it's also about thriving, happy children. 🧡

L. Frank Baum wrote, "In all this world, there is nothing so beautiful as a happy child." He should know - he wrote the The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a book beloved by millions of children across the globe.

3-year-old Jayani lives in a remote village in Ampara, Sri Lanka with her family, who face economic hardship and care for an older child with a developmental disability.

As a “glass child” (term used for siblings of children with developmental or health needs), Jayani’s needs are often overshadowed — yet she’s faced her own health challenges, including prolonged illness and difficulties with malnutrition.

With limited support and many barriers to care, Jayani’s story is not unique. Many children in remote communities struggle to access essential health services.

Through CERI’s partnership with UNICEF Sri Lanka, Jayani received treatment for Severe Acute Malnutrition, along with transportation support for ongoing care. Her mother has also started a home garden to provide fresh, nutritious food and renewed hope for the future.

Today, Jayani is gaining weight, her health is improving, and her family is no longer facing these challenges alone.

Jayani’s story is proof that a bright future is possible with the right care. 🧡🍽

Last week, CERI Guatemala and partners welcomed the addition of 320 new students from across the country into the Opportunities for Young Leaders Program. This initiative, led by Guatemala's Vice President, Karin Herrera, provides vocational education for young adults entering the workforce. 🎓📖

Through partnership with CERI and Fundación Carlos F. Novella, students can choose to specialize in fields such as electrical work, culinary arts, customer service, and tourism.

As the youth of Guatemala grow and transform their lives, communities, and country — we are proud to be part of that journey. 🧡💪

CERI had a wonderful experience attending Austin Together's 4th annual Collaborative Community Summit!

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from other local organizations and strengthen our connections.

The summit included an insightful and powerful fireside conversation with Brené Brown, Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette of Waterloo Greenway, and a super engaging choral experience by Conspirare. What a blast! 🧡

Family separation is a complex issue. There's a multitude of factors that can lead to a child being placed in institutionalized care, and the numbers are quite shocking.

We believe awareness is an important step in reforming child-based care, so that every child can thrive in a safe and supportive home! 🏠🧡

At nearly 3 years old, Pasindu weighed about the same as a 7-month-old. He struggled to lift his head and had little appetite.

Pasindu and his family live in a rural village in Sri Lanka’s Ampara district, where access to clean water and sanitation is limited. His mother lives with hearing loss and speech difficulties, making it difficult to find work. Pasindu’s health challenges often require hospital care, and the journey to get there is long and costly.

Together with UNICEF, CERI is supporting children facing Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in communities hit hardest by Cyclone Ditwah and flooding. Through this initiative, Pasindu began receiving Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in order to provide the energy and nutrients he needs to grow.

In just 20 days, Pasindu gained nearly half a kilogram—progress that once took almost a year. Pasindu’s family now receives transportation assistance to ensure Pasindu receives the treatment he needs.

Today, Pasindu’s appetite is improving, he can lift his head freely, and he’s on his way to a healthy weight. While some challenges remain, the support they received has given Pasindu’s family the hope and resources to drastically improve Pasindu’s health.

Appropriate and timely support can transform lives and bring lasting hope. 🙏🧡

How do you feed a nation? 🌏

In the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, many communities lost access to resources and food. As resilient families across Sri Lanka work to rebuild their lives, it's often young children who are hit the hardest.

That's why we're happy to share the news of our partnership with UNICEF Sri Lanka. Together, we are fighting Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), so that families are stronger and children get the nutrition they need to grow and thrive. 💪💗

Stay tuned for updates on this milestone project!
