3-year-old Jayani lives in a remote village in Ampara, Sri Lanka with her family, who face economic hardship and care for an older child with a developmental disability.
As a “glass child” (term used for siblings of children with developmental or health needs), Jayani’s needs are often overshadowed — yet she’s faced her own health challenges, including prolonged illness and difficulties with malnutrition.
With limited support and many barriers to care, Jayani’s story is not unique. Many children in remote communities struggle to access essential health services.
Through CERI’s partnership with UNICEF Sri Lanka, Jayani received treatment for Severe Acute Malnutrition, along with transportation support for ongoing care. Her mother has also started a home garden to provide fresh, nutritious food and renewed hope for the future.
Today, Jayani is gaining weight, her health is improving, and her family is no longer facing these challenges alone.
Jayani’s story is proof that a bright future is possible with the right care. 🧡🍽
