Shoutout to Geoff Burkhart and the amazing team at Travis County Community Legal Services! 🙌

Pictured here with our Executive Director (Erin Patterson) at our open house — this is what community looks like. We are so grateful for partners who share our passion for justice and show up, literally, to celebrate alongside us.

Thank you, Geoff. Thank you, Community Legal Services. Austin is better because of the work you do. ❤️

Whether it’s a neighbor, coworker, or someone in your community, conflict can change how you feel every time you see them.

When you think about it, it’s not about “winning” the argument. You just want things to feel normal again.

That’s the part people don’t talk about.

But mediation helps people move forward, not just “be right.” It creates space to be heard, understood, and find a solution that works for everyone.

Because at the end of the day, peace of mind matters more than winning.

WE'RE HOME 🎉

Last week, we celebrated our move into the Travis County CFCF Building, and to everyone who joined us, you mean the world to us and this mission. Your support is exactly what keeps us going.

This new home puts us right in the heart of Travis County, where we can keep doing what we love: helping Austin neighbors, families, and businesses find common ground.

And to our DRC staff 👏 Thank you for your heart, your hustle, and for choosing this work every single day. You make this place home.

New address. Same mission. Bigger possibilities. ✨

Your neighbor’s dog keeps leaving a mess in your yard.

You’ve mentioned it once…maybe twice. Now it feels awkward to bring up again. So you let it go.

But it keeps happening, and it still bothers you.

If you’ve been in a similar situation, you know this is how small issues turn into bigger ones. Not because anyone wants conflict, but because it’s hard to know how to start the conversation.

Mediation helps make that easier.

Sometimes it’s not just about the mess. It’s about having a better way to talk about it.

A coworker keeps undermining you in meetings.

You've tried addressing it directly. They got defensive. Now it's worse.

You're losing sleep. Dreading work. Wondering if you should just leave.

Sound familiar?

You don't have to quit your job over this.

Workplace mediation helps people address communication breakdowns before they damage careers or mental health.

A neutral mediator creates space for both people to share what's really happening, identify the issue, and build a path forward that works.

After months of tension between neighbors over noise complaints, a 2-hour mediation session helped them create a plan both could live with.

One year later? They're still following it. And they actually say hello now!

This is what happens when people create their own solutions instead of having a judge impose one.

Research backs this up: mediation resolves 70-80% of cases where parties reach agreement, and those agreements hold because the people involved built them together.

When you have control over the outcome, you're more likely to honor it. And preserve the relationship in the process.

That's why mediation works.

What actually is mediation?

Mediation ISN'T:
- Therapy
- Arbitration (where someone decides for you)
- A legal judgment
- Someone telling you what to do

Mediation IS:
- A structured conversation between two people (or groups)
- Guided by a neutral, trained mediator
- A space where both sides can share their perspective
- A process where YOU create the solution

The mediators don't pick sides. They don't decide who's right. They help you talk through the conflict, identify what matters most, and find a path forward that works for both of you.

Questions about how it works? Drop them in the comments. We're here to help!

Austin, it's South by Southwest time.

The house next door, usually quiet, is now an Airbnb packed with festival-goers.
Last night: music until 2 am.
This morning: cars blocking your driveway.
Tonight: you can already hear them pre-gaming.
You've texted the owner twice. No response. You're exhausted, frustrated, and about to call 311... again.

Sound familiar?

This is exactly when mediation helps, before neighbor tension becomes permanent. A neutral mediator helps you both create real solutions: quiet hours, parking rules, direct contact, and accountability.

The Airbnb isn't going anywhere. But the conflict doesn't have to stay.
