Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who answered the call with extraordinary courage. Please join NCNW in honoring those we lost by turning memory into purpose, grief into action, and hope into a better tomorrow.

This Labor Day we honor Black women whose labor has built families and strengthened communities while helping move this nation forward. From the workplace to the home, their contributions have too often been overlooked and undervalued. Today we recognize their work. We honor their resilience. We affirm the value of their contributions. But also run us the full dollar!!

Jordan said this in her keynote at the 1976 Democratic National Convention, the first ever delivered by a Black woman at a major party convention. Keep her plain definition of the American promise close, especially when the distance between promise and practice feels widest.

Black Women’s Equal Pay Day highlights the reality behind the numbers: Black women must work into the following year to earn what non-Hispanic white men earned the year before. With Black women earning approximately 65 cents on the dollar in full-time, year-round positions—and about 63 cents when all workers are included—the wage gap continues to impact economic security, wealth building, and opportunities for future generations. Today, we call on policymakers to strengthen workplace protections and create systems that promote equal pay, accountability, and opportunity.
