Our Harp Song
Girl Scout Harp Ensemble was established in 2010 by a Girl Scout who had the crazy idea of combining her love of Girl Scouts with her love of the harp. Together, another young harpist, they created this special interest with the help of Girl Scouts of Central Texas.
Members have lived throughout Central Texas from Dripping Springs to Killeen. We rehearse twice each month and provide events around the community. As a troop, we are unique. Our meetings are rehearsals; our campouts are performances.
In addition to rehearsing and performing, we have had some active travel opportunities over the years. In the summers, members have attended the Houston Summer Harp Festival and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. We have also attended National Harp Society Conventions in New Orleans, Atlanta, and Redlands. The original members of the ensemble studied the Seperewa, an ethnic harp, in Ghana, Africa.
In addition to their very busy schedules as Girl Scouts, musicians, students, and volunteers, we are active fundraisers and earn all the money to make these trips possible through cookie sales and donations.
