Teen Volunteers Wanted!

Summer opportunities- Sign up to help sort books in our warehouse & give away books at book giveaway in Cedar Park.

Join us this summer as we help childen living in poverty get access to books. Our goal is to help children in Austin build a home library with new books that actually interest them. How do we prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers?

By giving children STEM books!

This week, we had a STEM bonus table at our free book giveaway at Ortega elementary (Austin ISD) in East Austin.

Every child got to choose 1 book from the STEM table for summer reading.

Books choices included:
Who is Einstein?
Who is Galieo?
Marie Curie
Hidden Figures
1,001 Amazing Science Facts
Technology Activity Book
Can't Get Enough Shark Stuff
Can't Get Enough Space Stuff
Why? Animals
That's Gross!
Ada Twist, Scientist
My First Book of Planets
Ocean Animals for Kids
Little Kids First Big Book on the Ocean

In addition, students got to choose a book from the other tables and hit books included Pokemon, Hello Kitty, Bluey, Minecraft, Wonder, Goosebumps, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Babysitters Club, and books on the soccer player Ronaldo.

The students LOVED their books and promised to read them mulitple times over the summer.

Thank you to the multiple tech companies & TASSCC that sponsored every student getting 2 brand new books for summer reading! 📔

On April 30th, Book Drive for Kids Austin held a free school-wide book fair and all 281 students received 2 NEW books to take home for summer reading! 📚

In addition, teachers chose 40 books for their classrooms!

In total, we gifted 602 books to Pillow students and teachers! 😀

We are always looking for volunteers to help us give away free books to children! Please reach out to get added to our volunteer list!

A big thank you to the Texas Leadership Education & Development (Texas LEAD) team at The University of Texas at Austin and the incredible UT students from Project Advance Austin who partnered with our literacy nonprofit this year!

Over the last 10 months, they:
* Designed an impact report that tells our story to funders and the community.
* Created a volunteer recruitment flyer & posted it across UT's campus to bring more students into our mission.
* Created a social media growth strategy, including our new "Fun Fact Friday" content series and starting a TikTok account to reach a younger audience.

Project Advance Austin pairs UT students with local nonprofits to solve real-world problems — and the students leave with an IBM Project Management Certificate.

To this year's team: thank you for your all of your time, creativity, and passion!

Last week, Book Drive for Kids Austin was at Sanchez elementary in Austin ISD hosting a school-wide book fair that was free for the entire school! We gifted a total of 730 new books! 📚

Thank you to SouthState Bank for sponsoring the free book distribution event, for volunteering and reading to kindergarten students! Thank you to the students from the University of Texas at Austin and ladies with Texas Women In Business Austin - TWIB who volunteered with us as well!

Sanchez's librarian Shannon Kehoe emailed me this morning saying, "Thank you for bringing joy and books to our entire campus! Everyone is still talking about it!"

We love bringing smiles to children's faces with new books! They get so excited when they realize the books are free and that they get to keep it! The kindergarteners were quite enthusiastic when they saw the variety of Minecraft & Ronaldo books! ❤️
