Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems

Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems The Center designs and tests innovative programs that integrate air, water, food, energy, and material systems to build healthy and sustainable communities.

The Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems, established in 1975, is a non-profit education, research, and demonstration organization specializing in life cycle planning and design. We undertake projects based on their potential contribution to site, regional and global sustainability and human health, and actively pursue collaborations with associate organizations, businesses and profession

al firms. Projects emphasize regional contexts as bases for responsible resource use relative to materials, energy, water, waste, food, and meaningful employment. Our expertise is accessible through green planning and design services, conference presentations, public lectures, and published papers.

Our July Open House was a special gathering with Tim Callahan launching his book, Hempstead, Architectural Details for Hemp-Lime Construction, Jean Lotus, publisher of HempBuild Magazine (.build), and Lauren Stanley and Caroline Dunn representing AIA Austin’s Resiliency & Climate Response committee, key to the City of Austin’s recent code approval of hempcrete.

Recognizing the profoundly catastrophic losses from the recent Hill Country floods, all contributions from the evening’s event, totaling more than $400, will go to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.

Hope to see you at our next open house, August 1st, 6:30-8:00 PM!

Come on out to the Center on Friday, March 7th at 5:30 PM for our monthly Open House!

CMPBS Open Houses are much more than just a tour of our grounds - though you'll get to do that too! These gatherings focus on building community with folks from a variety of backgrounds and industries, providing a space to make personal and professional connections for the future of green design. This month, we'll kick off the conversation by sharing a bit about our ideas for a multimodal transportation system, as well as other exciting projects in the works. 💡📐

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided, and a suggested $10 donation is always appreciated but not required. We can't wait to see you there!

The Green Leaders Fellowship 2025 cohort is officially underway - we're so excited to have Susana on board with us as the Multimedia Storytelling Fellow for CMPBS!

On Tuesday, January 7, our team attended the Green Leaders Fellowship Launch Party to kick things off with the rest of our Texas nonprofit community. We’d like to thank all of the attendees, EarthShare Texas for their stewardship of this program, Easy Tiger, and especially the event sponsor Vericast for having us. Also, a big thank you to H-E-B for its generous grant to support and expand the Green Leaders Fellowship during its 2024-2025 cycle, making Susana's vital work with CMPBS possible.

Follow the Green Leaders Fellowship to stay updated on the Fellows’ progress throughout the program!

Last Friday was a huge success at the Center! We had the pleasure of hosting 60 bright students from American Institute of Architecture Students - AIAS who explored our grounds with an insightful tour led by Gail and Pliny. They then dove into a creative Global Dream Lab workshop, honing their problem-solving skills for a brighter, more sustainable future. 🌎🌱

We’re excited to see how these future architects and designers will use their talents to build a better, more connected world!
