Texas Lawyer Charged With Sexually Abusing His Dog
Houston, Texas - A Houston lawyer is now facing a felony be******ty charge after investigators say his own wife allegedly discovered disturbing surveillance footage involving the family dog.
The dog’s name is reportedly Shipley.
According to reporting and Harris County court records, Steven Tyler Swain is charged in The State of Texas vs. Swain, Steven Tyler, Case No. 196461101010-3, in Harris County’s 183rd Criminal District Court. The charge is listed as Be******ty, a State Jail Felony.
This case reportedly started inside Swain’s west Houston home.
His wife had surveillance cameras set up during renovations, and while reviewing footage, she allegedly saw something horrifying. Reports say she identified Swain and the family dog in the video, turned the evidence over, and got Shipley out of that home.
According to reporting court records, the alleged video was recorded in November 2025 inside a Memorial-area home on Providence Park in west Houston. The complaint reportedly reached Harris County Precinct 1 investigators after the Houston SPCA was contacted. The complainant, identified in reports as Swain’s wife, allegedly provided the video and confirmed that both Swain and Shipley were shown in the footage.
That is the part animal advocates need to hear clearly: Shipley reportedly survived this and is now safe with the complainant while the case moves through court.
The paper trail backs up that this is now a real criminal case. Harris County records show the complaint was filed on May 18th, 2026. That same day, probable cause was found, the case was reviewed, and a warrant or citation was issued. The originating agency is listed as Constable Precinct 1, with offense number 260500271.
By May 22nd, court records indicate Swain was taken into custody.
On May 23th, the case moved forward with entries showing the be******ty offense, statutory warnings, a financial affidavit, pretrial supervision bond conditions, and bail set at $7,500.
The next day, On May 24, Swain made bail.
As of now, reports say court records do not indicate whether an attorney has issued a public statement on Swain’s behalf.
This is exactly why people need to take animal abuse seriously, especially when it allegedly happens behind closed doors. Animals cannot call 911. They cannot explain what happened. They depend on someone seeing the signs, saving the evidence, and getting them out.
Shipley had someone do that.
The next court date is expected to be May 26th, 2026.
Now the question is whether Harris County will treat this case with the seriousness it deserves.
