A new class of neurology residents is beginning training this summer. 🧠 To help them prepare for the journey ahead, we asked TNS leaders for the advice they wish they had known when starting residency.
Here's what Dr. Masrour had to say:
What do you wish you knew on your first day of neurology residency? Not feeling ready is completely normal. Confidence comes with time, repetition, and experience.
What is one practical tip that helped you succeed during residency? Taking ownership of my patients. Following their course closely and thinking through their care decisions prepares you well for the transition to becoming an attending neurologist. Asking questions early and often. Being proactive about gaps in your knowledge will accelerate your learning and ultimately makes you a well-rounded neurologist.
What advice would you give residents about taking care of themselves during training? Don’t neglect your hobbies—make time for at least one non-medical activity that you genuinely enjoy.
