Are you interested in animals, plants, wildlife, the outdoors, science, leadership, or any other part of agriculture? Would you like to spend a Saturday getting to know the FFA officers and senior members that are leaders in ag and want to teach you their skills? Do you want to get your hands dirty while doing a little learning? Then become a Little Greenhand and join us at the Akins FFA Chapter.

August 1 the Akins FFA will host a Little Greenhands Camp in the Akins High School Cafeteria. This is intended for students in 3rd through 8th grade that have an interest in agriculture, natural resources, plants, and animals. Akins FFA members will lead informational workshops and provide the Little Greenhands with take home goodies, a tshirt, and lunch. Check in between 8:30am and 9am. We will start at 9 and finish with lunch about 12:30 to 1pm. Cost is $50 for the camp.

Sample activities may include “dirt in a cup,” planting seedlings, petting zoo, barn and greenhouse tours, vet skills demonstrations, floral design, wildlife skills, and more.

Students interested in Junior FFA, livestock, public speaking, and more are welcome to attend or contact the ag teachers for more info. Mr. Callis - [email protected] or 361-876-1555

Today our Park Ranger Cadets became Watershed Detectives with the City of Austin Watershed Protection department. They did water quality sampling and cleanup on Lady Bird Lake.

They learned about how pollution affects our aquifer and how plastics (especially micro plastics) make their way into the Gulf.

Calling all interested sheep/goat raisers!🗣️ We are holding a sheep and goat raiser interest meeting next Tuesday, May 19th. Information regarding raising sheep or goats for the 2026/2027 school year will be shared. Attendance is mandatory for both students and parents to be put on the raiser list next year. Today’s the day! The Akins FFA banquet is tonight, Wednesday May 13 at 6PM at the Creedmoor Community Center. We look forward to seeing you there as we celebrate our FFA members, practicum students, seniors, supporters, and much more.

If you purchased a meal ticket, we have your information and no physical ticket is required. We have a few extra meals available for cash at the door. Otherwise, general attendance is free. Please message the ag teachers with any questions.

We want to celebrate the students that have made an impact and put forth their all the past few months. Additionally, we want to celebrate the Marketing Plan team for earning 8th at state. And Teo, Salvador, MK, and Lilly have advanced to Area SDE’s next week.

We especially want to congratulate Teo and Luna on a successful year as Star District Officers. They have been succeeded by Martha, our new district Sentinel. And we wish Luna luck as she has been elected to serve as our representative as an Area XII FFA Officer!

The Akins FFA Banquet will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at 6PM at the Creedmoor Community Center at 12513 FM 1625, Creedmoor, Texas 78610.

Please help us celebrate our FFA members, practicum students, and supporters. Catering will be provided by Rudy’s BBQ.

Meals at the banquet are $15 per person. If you wish to attend without the meal, you are welcome to come. Please purchase your tickets or RSVP by 5/8.
