Why SFTCA?

In January 2020, Alfredo Felipe Valdes began nonprofit, Support for the Cuban Artist, to do what he’d been doing for the last decade on his own, facilitate accomplished and aspiring Cuban artists’ ability to create and sell their work. Felipe Valdes, a physician in Cuba for decades, now lives in Texas. Often he witnessed talented artists, unable to continue working because they were unable to get basic supplies like canvas, paper, pen or paints.

The Mission of the organization is to keep art, imagination and hope alive in Cuba. Programs to support visual artists, their families and communities in rural Cuba include, providing art supplies, art education and community activities like master classes, art contests and Art in the Park, a unique community outreach program making art accessible to artists of all ages and stages.

Support for the Cuban Artist's Vision is to be a fully sustainable, self-funded organization within five years. With the investment from our founding supporters, our Adventure Capitalists, in 2020-21, and financial and in-kind support from lovers of art, Cuban culture and cultural immersion, we will secure our seed capital. By importing and selling art from the country’s most promising artists for placement in museums, galleries, and private collections, SFTCA will be able to make money, make a difference and provide a desperately needed lifeline to artist and their families currently struggling to survive - bringing beauty to all who create, see and share the art.
