UPDATE ON MAKENZIE'S SPINAL OPERATION TODAY: This morning, Makenzie had a full spinal fusion all the way to her pelvis. She was diagnosed with scoliosis with a 31 degree spinal curve only a year ago, and as you can see from her x-ray, it has more than doubled to 66 degrees. Any further change and it would start to impact her lungs and heart. After several hours of surgery this morning, she is currently still in recovery, however, the doctor said her operation went well. With quite a long healing time, she will be another 1 ½ - 2 inches taller - and, most importantly, have a straight spine. We thank you so much for your continuing support, kind wishes and prayers.

The clinic is comprised of an array of doctors who work closely together to help each patient. Makenzie now has a dynamic, ever-expanding array of specialist doctors to help manage her 14 different diagnoses - working as a team.

AN EXCITING UPDATE FROM Kelly Kay Wynn; EXCELLENT NEWS FOR HER DAUGHTER MAKENZIE - and the whole family: Makenzie began to having crying spells and a drastic increase in her self-injurious behavior. We had to hospitalize her twice where after days of invasive tests the best hypothesis from her team of 10 doctors is that she is experiencing the onset of puberty. Taking care of Makenzie ourselves has become an unrealistic expectation. As she continues growing, her needs simply can’t be met by mom and dad, and she requires full time specialists and trained therapists.

Whilst it’s devastating that Makenzie’s multitude of challenges are so severe, we found out that she now qualifies for a Crisis Intervention program that will get her the support she so desperately needs. Now, Donnie and I can be her mom and dad, rather than her overwhelmed care takers. I’m still in disbelief that we will be getting so much help...we are so grateful.

Applying for part time or full time help for Special Needs children is an exhaustive and ongoing battle. Through Special Needs HQ / SNHQ we will be able to share how to find and take advantage of available solutions, and navigate bureaucratic barriers, with so many parents and caregivers in need of guidance and support.
