Sometimes the biggest sign that God has changed a life is seeing a daughter get her mom back.
At House of Faith for Women, God isn’t just changing women—He’s restoring families.
Read her daughter’s words below. They’re a beautiful reminder of why this ministry matters.
Help us continue giving families hope, healing, and restoration.
In the summer the fourth of July is a favorite holiday for most families. My family is no different than most. We enjoy picnics, fireworks, and everything that goes with the summer celebration. The summer I turned 5 I begged to go see the fireworks and while we waited for it to get dark my life changed forever. My family learned that my mom was addicted to fentanyl. The fireworks I saw that night weren't the kind we light in the sky but my family's reaction to my moms drug use.
At five I didn't understand what was happening but I knew it was something terrible.I remember crying because my mom and grandma were fighting over me and what was going to happen to my mom.I ended up staying with my uncle and my grandma flew with my mom to rehab. I didnt know what rehab was and I didnt understand why I couldn't go with my mom. My grandma promised she would be back the next day to get me.
At the age of 6 I started to learn how my moms actions impacted my life. I became really emotional, distant and rude and addition covid isolated me from any friends. I pushed away and blamed my family because my mom wasn't there and all I wanted was my mom. I started to learn more adult concepts and I matured.
Even though I lived with my grandma, at age 7-10 I started to be introduced to my moms toxic life and boyfriends. I had ended up seeing my mom go to jail over 3 or 4 times and By that point I didn't believe she would survive to my graduation. At ten I didn't believe I deserved to live because why was all this happening to me.I started self harming and became a bad friend and my friends told me if I keep talking to them like I had been they would quit talking to me. My mom had hit rock bottom and so had I.
My mom was visiting my home and got into an altercation with my grandma over missing money and my mom ended up arrested again. That arrest snowballed into her being transferred into one county jail to another over charges pending. She finally ended up in Lonoke county jail and several deputies knew her since she was a child and decided to do whatever it took to get her back into rehab. She ended up at the House of faith for women and is 18 months sober. My grandmother has adopted me and I started my own path of healing mentally and physically.
My mom is in my life and can spend time with me and even occasionally spend the night. We are enjoying her sobriety. Hopefully next fourth of July we can watch the fireworks together and they'll all be in the sky.
