The WCJC Board of Trustees on Tuesday night held a reception honoring Jim Bouligny on the occasion of his 90th birthday. A former WCJC student, Bouligny served on the board for 30 years, helping to guide the college through various phases of progress. Since stepping away from the board, Bouligny has continued to support the college through encouragement, advocacy and an ongoing emphasis on the power of education to transform lives and strengthen communities. Pictured, left to right, are Board of Trustees Chair J. Paul Pope, Vice-President of Instruction Leigh Ann Collins, Bouligny, and WCJC President Dr. Amanda Allen.

I’m excited to announce I will serve as a speaker at the 15th annual Texas Tribune Festival, Nov. 13-15 in Austin.

At TribFest, I’ll join inspiring thinkers, leaders, and innovators to discuss issues that matter to our great state and fellow Texans.

The session, “The Pathway- How community colleges are creating affordable opportunities for the next generation of workers,” will highlight the great work at Victoria College and other Texas community colleges in providing the trained and educated workforce needed to grow the 8th largest economy in the world. More importantly, our work provides students with their very own pathways to prosperity.

TribFest tickets are now available: https://festival.texastribune.org/event/c17d2d9c-68f6-4fa4-a721-966c0ff1ab3e/home?RefId=Outreach_Speaker&utm_medium=tos-april1-outreach-speaker&utm_source=speaker&utm_term=tos-april1-outreach-speaker

This year, Excelencia in Education is introducing the Intentionally Thriving Institution (ITI) designation, that extends beyond the educational pathway and recognizes positive impact in preparing students for, and connecting them to, the workforce. We are proud to announce that eight institutions from the 2019 inaugural cohort are now Intentionally Thriving Institutions.

“Excelencia is proud to continue to catalyze and support colleges and universities that earn the Seal of Excelencia for their impact and intentional efforts to deliver on the promise of higher education for all students. Through our collaboration, we build talent for our country’s workforce and civic leadership,” said Sarita Brown, co-founder and president of Excelencia in Education.
