This precious 10-month-old girl “Chili”🌶️ (32275) is looking for a medical foster after a 4 week stay in the ICU at AAS. She was found by animal protection officers unable to walk with a face full of porcupine quills. Poor thing, in addition to the quills, examination revealed both of her femurs were fractured!

With funding from Friends of AAS, she was able to have surgery the very next day after she was found. She is in recovery and expected to begin living her best life very soon. With the help of your donations, we are able to provide critical medical care to animals like Chili in our community, thank you for your support! 🙏🏼

$7,950 for... dirt? Well, sort of. 🪴

Every year, Friends of Austin Animal Services funds a refresh of the shelter’s dog play yards.

This year, that not-so-glamorous but very important expense comes to $7,950.

For many shelter dogs, a trip to the play yard may be their one break from their kennel that day, often just 15-30 minutes. A safe, enriching yard helps a dog and their shelter human, whether a staff member or volunteer, make the most of that time together.

The yards are also important spaces for dog-to-dog interactions and for potential adopters to meet and spend time with dogs outside of their kennels.

With the rising cost of materials, we’re incredibly grateful for our longtime landscaping partner, who works with us to keep the cost of this annual refresh as consistent as possible year after year. 🙏

Sometimes supporting shelter animals means funding the exciting stuff. Sometimes it means funding dirt.

Help us keep the yards maintained:

A happy medical success story from our medical assistance program or “MAP”! This young pup was found in the road on a residential street whimpering and unable to stand. Following a call to 311 by a neighbor, he was brought to AAS where an X-ray disclosed he had serious fractures in both hind legs and in his pelvis.

With funding from Friends of AAS, he underwent two specialized surgeries right away—including placement of a surgical plate for one of his femurs.

He’s recovering well in a medical foster home and his foster reports that he is very sweet and cuddly and he already wags his tail when he sees her other dogs. She believes he will make a full recovery.

Stay tuned for updates and photos as we follow his recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Big news! 👀
Look what just went up in Austin, TX! 🪧

A huge thank you to Dick Clark + Associates, a local architecture firm that has been serving Austin for more than 40 years, for making this possible. 🤩

Their generosity is helping spread the word about ways our community can support Austin Animal Services through donating, adopting, fostering, and volunteering.

When local businesses invest in our local city shelter, the impact reaches far beyond a billboard. It helps more people discover how they can make a difference for the animals that come from our city’s streets and people.

Thank you, Dick Clark + Associates, for standing with Austin’s animals and the people who care for them. ❤️

Check it out at 7th & Robert T Martinez Jr St 📍

The dog days of summer are in full swing! ☀️🥵

One small way Friends of AAS helps keep the shelter people feeling cool and morale up is a by sponsoring Kona Ice throughout the summer! 🍧🧊

The boost of joy that staff and volunteers feel while taking care of the city shelter’s cats, dogs, and critters is unmatched!

We greatly appreciate the Austin Animal Services’ staff and volunteers. It is such an inspiring group of people that we are honored to support. ❤️

We hope to continue our shelter people appreciation efforts and need your help! 🙏

Can you donate $10 towards keeping the shelter peeps and animals cool and morale high?

The shelter is full, and while crates are not a long-term home, they are helping keep dogs safe when there is nowhere else for them to go. 🙏

Right now, these dogs need enrichment more than ever- something to chew, lick, sniff, shred, and focus on while they wait for walks, foster homes, adopters, or a proper space to decompress. ⏳

We updated our Amazon wishlist with crate-friendly enrichment items like chews to help make their days a little easier.

Even one item can give a stressed dog something positive to do during a really hard chapter.

Foster- give a dog that matches your needs a beak from the shelter.
Adopt- whether you’re looking for a mellow senior or playful friend for your dog, there is surely a fit.
📍 visit Austin Animal Services, open 7 days a week from 11am-7pm.

Thank you for helping us keep them comfortable, busy, and as loved as possible. ❤️

Meet Bravo 🐶

This young large-breed puppy has a complicated fracture that required surgery under fluoroscopy, using real-time x-ray imaging. It is a highly specialized procedure that can only be done at a clinic with the right equipment. 🏥

Without surgery, amputation was the alternative.

Bravo had his procedure this week, and now this brave little guy is on the other side of it and starting recovery.

He still has a road of recovery ahead, but we are so relieved he got the chance to keep his leg and begin healing. ❤️‍🩹

Friends of AAS supported his surgery, as part of our medical assistance program. The specialized care cost $5,000.

Please donate to help Bravo’s medical costs at friendsfofaas.org/donate. 🔗

Amplify Austin ends in just a few hours! ⏲️

With your help, we can unlock more matching grant dollars to help Austin’s shelter animals and their people - animals like:

🐱 Halloween arrived to the shelter with serious trauma to his head and ear. As a result, he eventually lost his ear and had severe scarring to his ear canal that requires two surgeries to correct. Halloween has had his first surgery and is awaiting his second. Despite it all, Halloween is a happy, energetic kitten! Both surgeries are being covered by Friends because of our amazing donors.

🐶 This little guy was hit by a car, which resulted in a fractured right ilium and left femur. Thanks to you, he underwent two surgeries to fix both legs and is recovering well!

🐰 Fuzzy - who needed dental extractions in order to eat and, thanks to your generosity, was able to receive surgery and remain in their loving home.

Surgeries like this are quite common at Austin Animal Services, but only because of donors like you. Can we count on you to donate to Friends of AAC before Amplify Austin ends tonight?

Let’s Amplify Friends of AAC❕

Thousands of animals are cared for by (AAS, previously Austin Animal Center) each year, including the young tabby kitty pictured above. He arrived to AAS with a fractured femur, likely from being hit by a car. He underwent surgery to remove the socket end of his femur. Even with a fractured long bone, he has proven to be a big love-bug who wants nothing more than to be petted while cuddling in his vet’s lap.

As we take on additional costs like specialty orthopedic surgeries due to city budget cuts, your donations are more important than ever.

With every gift to Friends of AAC through Amplify Austin, we have the opportunity to unlock additional grant dollars to care for even more animals. You can increase your impact to Friends of Austin Animal Center by giving through Amplify Austin today and unlocking additional grant dollars!

Your support drives our mission and every donation is used to directly benefit the animals at Austin Animal Services and the people who care for them.
