Austin Child Guidance Center

Austin Child Guidance Center Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) is a nonprofit that provides accessible, high-quality mental health services to children and their families to empower them to thrive in childhood and beyond.

We provide a variety of mental health services to support children and their families all across Central Texas. They include Individual and Family Therapy, Group Therapy, Psychological Assessments, and Caregiver Workshops. Our clinical services are offered in English and Spanish and provided both in-person and via tele-therapy.

As part of our effort to serve all families, especially those with

financial needs, ACGC offers a sliding fee scale. We consider circumstances such as household income and family size and regular/standard living expenses to calculate the percentage of service fees qualified clients will be responsible for paying.

ACGC offers FREE therapy services for victims of crimes. We are also offering FREE support for children and families impacted by the July 4th Central Texas floods.

We are heartbroken by the loss of Cathy McHorse and grateful for the lasting impact she made on our community.

Cathy dedicated so much of her life to creating better opportunities for children and families, working behind the scenes to support meaningful change. Her compassion, commitment, and belief in the potential of every child left an immeasurable mark on Central Texas and on the many people fortunate enough to work alongside her.

As we reflect on her life and legacy, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, and her contributions will continue to inspire the work of so many for years to come.

As we wrap up Week 4: Supporting Loved Ones of Mental Health Awareness Month, hear from some of our ACGC clinicians in our final Clinicians Answer reel. 💚

This week, clinicians share what it can truly look like to support someone through their mental health journey, being present, listening with compassion, knowing your limits, and reminding loved ones they are more than their struggles.

Support doesn’t mean having all the answers or carrying someone else’s pain alone. A loved one’s mental health challenges are not your failure, and caring for yourself is an important part of showing up for others in a healthy, sustainable way.

We’re looking for Outreach Volunteers to help expand awareness of Austin Child Guidance Center’s mission and services throughout the community 💚

Outreach Volunteers support staff at community events, workshops, and outreach activities by sharing approved information about ACGC programs, distributing resources, and helping create welcoming community connections. This is a non-clinical volunteer role focused on education, engagement, and advocacy.

Volunteers should be comfortable speaking with community members, maintaining professional boundaries, and traveling to outreach events throughout the Austin area. Reliable transportation is required.

The way we respond to someone who is struggling can shape whether they feel supported, understood, and safe opening up. 💚

What are examples of phrases to AVOID when someone shares they are struggling? Swipe to see!

Dismissive or minimizing responses can make someone feel unheard or isolated, even when they come from good intentions. Choosing thoughtful, compassionate language helps create space for empathy, connection, and support. Our previous post goes over examples of supportive language you can use instead.
