We are excited to share that Sonyashnyk will be participating in the 68th Anniversary of the San Antonio Folklife and Dance Festival Performances.

This wonderful event celebrates the incredible cultural diversity of San Antonio by bringing together dance groups, performers and cultural organizations from many traditions around the world. The festival was created to help fill the gap in international cultural presentations, and each year it continues to grow by welcoming new groups and showcasing vibrant heritage through music, dance, and activities for all ages.

We are grateful to the SA Folkfest organizers for trusting Sonyashnyk to help share the beauty of Ukrainian culture and traditions through our performances. It is always an honor for us to represent Ukraine and bring the energy, color and spirit of Ukrainian folk dance to new audiences. 🇺🇦

Sonyashnyk dance, “Mriya” which means “Dream” — is a story about life, resilience and hope. It reflects the journey through hardship and trials and the unwavering belief that even after the darkest moments, a dream can still come true.

For every Ukrainian, “Mriya” carries deep symbolism. It represents life itself — much like the legendary Antonov An-225 Mriya, the world-famous plane that became a symbol of national pride before it was destroyed by Russian forces at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Though the aircraft was lost, what it stood for was not.

This dance is also a tribute to the dreams of broken hearts and to our fallen heroes, whose sacrifice allows our nation’s dream to live on. Their hearts continue to beat as one with the hearts of all Ukrainians. Through movement, music and spirit, we honor their courage and carry their hope forward.

Because a dream cannot be destroyed.
