This Sunday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m., (Crail C and on Zoom) our St. David's Core Values series continues with a Holy Conversation with representatives from the Texas Inmate Families Association - TIFA

We will explore the impact of mass incarceration in Texas and within the Texas prison system.

The Rev. Chad McCall will host Sharon McKinney, President of TIFA, and LaKeidru Blaylock, Senior Chapter Chair of TIFA for this conversation.

We hope this event will help us reflect more deeply on our core value of Engaging Boundaries. "We confront boundaries that were put in place by privilege, power and prejudice that keep people from living Grace-filled, authentic lives."

TIFA hires a Family Liaison and Educator.

TIFA welcomes our newest staff member, Cindy Hughes. Cindy joins TIFA as the Family Liaison and Educator for our families.

Cindy has been an admin for the TIFA Facebook groups for the last 2 years. She has been impacted by the system since 2017 and is very knowledgeable regarding TDCJ’s rules and procedures.

As the Family Liaison and Educator, Cindy will be your contact for all unit issues. If you have an issue, all you need to do is email her at [email protected], and she will be there for you.

In addition to those duties, Cindy will teach the New Family Orientation (NFO), the Family Reintegration to Society Workshop (FITS), Grow with Google, and work with our members to ensure that their needs are being taken care of.

Through the Grow With Google Program, TIFA is providing digital skills training and resources to the justice-impacted community. Lessons vary from fundamental digital skills, such as how to apply for jobs online and create a resume, to more advanced topics, including entrepreneurship and business budgeting. Google's financial support allows us to continue to grow our mission of education, advocacy, and organizing while breaking the digital skills barrier to reentry.
