This morning a garbage can caught fire near North Porter st between Park at and Lily st here in Aurora IL.

We’re still unsure why the fire started, but lithium batteries and electronics tossed in trash bins are a common cause. When they get crushed or overheat, they can ignite 🔥

Here’s how to prevent your home from burning on this upcoming heat. 🥵

❌ Never put these in your trash or recycling bin:

Lithium batteries, old phones, vapes, e-bike batteries, power tools, any electronics

✅ Trash bin = bagged household garbage only

✅ Recycling bin = clean bottles, cans, paper, cardboard only

✅ Batteries + electronics = drop off free at Kane County Recycling Center, Best Buy, Staples, Home Depot, or check Earth911.org

One wrong item can spark a bin fire that puts neighbors, sanitation workers, and firefighters at risk.

Take 60 seconds today to sort it right. Keep Aurora safe. ♻️
