Hello Colorado Wild Player,

Welcome to another season of Colorado Wild Baseball. As you know the sport of baseball is a very explosive and mental sport. Every year players are becoming bigger, stronger, and faster. With faster and stronger athletes as your competition you as an athlete must be prepared. The importance of coming into the season in the best shape possible is at the utmost priority. By coming into a season out of shape you are already behind your competition that has been training for the whole off-season. This is what separates the good players from the mediocre ones. Championship teams and players come into the season in shape and only improve from then on. Mediocre players come into the season out of shape and are always trying to catch up with the winning teams the whole season. Remember you cannot play yourself into shape. You must prepare before you win a championship not prepare as you are trying to win a championship.

The importance of employing a preseason conditioning program for baseball is critical for the prevention of injuries. Scientifically based programs will get you into the best shape possible for the upcoming season. The following program will help get into shape for the season and with a little luck will keep you injury free. Remember you do not help the team if you are not in the lineup nursing an injury that could have been prevented. Enjoy the program and enjoy your upcoming baseball season.

Korey Askew with Y2K Sports Training/Colorado Wild Baseball has begun our offseason workouts and player development. The workouts are held Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm-7pm at Martin Luther King Middle School and Saturday from noon til 3pm at Legend’s Baseball and Softball Facility.

Attributes of a winning player

A winning player understands the game & simplifies the game. He is competitive, fearless and relentless in his pursuit of excellence.

1. Analysis Equals paralysis. Don’t over analyze that’s leads to negative thinking and fear. Can’t play the game with negative emotion and fear.

2. Adjustments Baseball is a game of adjustments and a game of failure. You have to be capable of making adjustments & overcoming fear of failure. Acting in spite of fear (Courage) leads to confidence.

3. Adversity is a test and a stern teacher. Baseball is a game of failure. Fail forward, learn from adversity. Always told my team. “If you want to know who I am, watch me when things aren’t going my way”. That’s an indicator when recruiting & watching players. The game is tough enough-stay even keel. Don’t let your ego take over, positive emotions not negative. Best example of a winning player (Derek Jeter).

4. Aggressiveness under control. It is possible to be too aggressive. Balance is required-control. Be proactive not reactive.

5. Attitude & Approach I would tell my son throwing your helmet or bat or beating up the water cooler is negative emotion. It does not help. Control what you can control, your Preparation Attitude & Behavior.

Preston Askew was officially offered to play with the UA (Under Amour)/Baseball Factory national team today. Preston's 60 yard dash was rated amount the best in the entire field of attendees and higher than anyone in his age group. He also showed a very skilled bat which was most impressive for the scouting group. Good Job P.

It’s not the will to win that matters—everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.
