At Tuesday night's City Council meeting, Mayor John Laesch proclaimed April 13 through 19 as Youth Minds Matter Spirit Week, in partnership with Talented Tenth Social Services and Project Altogether!

The initiative includes a Youth Minds Matter Ribbon, which features green and white colors to represent mental health awareness, healing, and hope, plus a new website entitled "The Mental Health Gallery" to help spread additional awareness and creative expression.

💚 The OFFICIAL Youth Minds Matter Spirit Week Starts TOMORROW! 💚

From April 13–17, the youth of Project Altogether are leading Youth Minds Matter Spirit Week, a student-driven campaign focused on mental health awareness, kindness, self-expression, and self-care.

Throughout the week, students will participate in activities at their respective schools that encourage positive conversations about mental health, including recognizing the power of kind words, expressing creativity, taking healthy brain breaks, and prioritizing self-care.

This initiative is part of a larger movement created by students to remind young people that they are not alone and that their mental health matters. The campaign includes the Youth Minds Matter ribbon, designed by students in green and white to represent healing, hope, and community support.

The impact of these young leaders has been recognized across Illinois. A House Resolution of the Illinois General Assembly officially declared April 13–19, 2026 as Youth Minds Matter Spirit Week, honoring the students of Project Altogether and Talented Tenth Social Services for their leadership in promoting youth mental health awareness.

🌿 The Mental Health Gallery is officially LIVE! 🌿

As part of the Youth Minds Matter Campaign, students from Talented Tenth Social Services- Project Altogether have created a digital space where youth voices, creativity, and mental health awareness come together.

The Mental Health Gallery highlights student artwork and expressions that explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences related to mental health.

This platform was created by students to encourage open conversations, reduce stigma, and remind young people that they are not alone.

Courtney, the brilliant author of Vacation Diary of a Sloth — a fun adventure following the travels of two sloths — will be sharing her journey as a young author, her own personal love for traveling (she has already visited more than 25 states, Puerto Rico, and two countries!), and what Black Girl Magic means to her.
