THANK YOU to all of our volunteers this past Saturday. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Scout Troop 28 cleaned and restored several solders' monuments. One had sunken so deep it had to be winched back up! With the help of other faithful volunteers, the Cemetery is looking great and ready for the May 24th Memorial Day Ceremony at 2:00pm.

Lyman Woodworth was the brother of Alvan and Erasmus, founders of the E. & A. Woodworth carriage factory (now Muebleria Sergio furniture on Downer Pl.). Lyman was listed as a mason in the 1867 City Directory, and may have built both the limestone factory and Alvin's home. While E. & A. moved to Nebraska in 1860, Lyman remained in Aurora and is buried at West Aurora Cemetery along with his wife, Latetia Tanner Woodworth, daughter, Electa Woodworth Evans, and son, Eddie, who died "from lock-jaw caused by an injury" at the age of 8. Erasmus was buried in Omaha, but his wife, Sarah Wheeler Hoyt Woodworth and daughters Charlotte Vanderlip and Jennie Woodworth were buried at West Aurora (see previous post).
