The chorus had the privilege to tour and perform a recital in this amazing cathedral in 2025.
For more than 800 years, Chartres Cathedral has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in France. People came here for its connection to the Virgin Mary, and many still do today. It is not just a landmark, it has been part of people’s journeys for centuries.
What sets it apart is how complete it feels. Most medieval cathedrals were altered over time, but Chartres remains largely intact, from its structure to its stained glass. That is a big reason why UNESCO considers it one of the most authentic Gothic cathedrals in Europe.
Inside, the light does most of the work. The stained glass windows date back to the 12th and 13th centuries, and many of them are still in place, which is rare. You are not looking at reconstructions or replacements, but the same glass people saw hundreds of years ago.
What catches people off guard is how direct the experience feels. It is not over explained or staged. You walk in, and it speaks for itself.
Would you go out of your way to visit Chartres, or keep to the bigger cities?
