Bill L. Holen is a disabled Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is also a former member of the Colorado Air National Guard and has dedicated more than 50 years to public service at the local, state, and federal levels. He served three terms as an Arapahoe County Commissioner, where he oversaw Information Technology, Facilities, and Fleet Management while working to ensure responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources.

Bill's life has also been shaped by profound grief and resilience. His military service exposed him to the lasting impacts of loss, and years later, his wife, Debi Hunter Holen, survived a brutal assault in which she was nearly beaten to death. Together, they have faced unimaginable trauma with courage and perseverance, giving Bill a unique perspective on grief, healing, service, and hope. He lives in Aurora, Colorado, with Debi and is the father of one son, Jon.

🎤 Meet Our Master of Ceremonies – Debbie Stafford!

We are honored to welcome Debbie Stafford as the Master of Ceremonies for Grief Con 2026 💔

Debbie Stafford is the Legislative and Community Director for Aurora Mental Health & Recovery, where she has served for nearly 20 years. She is also Chair of the Aurora Community of Faith, an ordained pastor, motivational speaker, and former four-term Colorado State Representative.

A nationally certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Debbie has trained adults, youth leaders, military personnel, and first responders across Colorado. She was recognized as "Colorado's Mental Health First Aid Instructor of the Year" for her extraordinary dedication to helping others. She was awarded "Humanitarian of the Year" by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce in 2025.

Debbie recently retired after 34 years as a domestic violence counselor and continues her pastoral ministry by officiating funerals for families throughout Colorado. Having officiated more than 2,000 funerals, she has walked alongside thousands of individuals during some of life's most difficult moments with compassion, faith, and hope.

She is also a published author, accomplished auctioneer who has helped raise millions of dollars for Colorado charities, and a passionate advocate for mental health, healing, and community.

We are truly blessed to have Debbie leading Grief Con 2026 as we come together to learn, connect, and find hope on the journey through grief.
