Friends of Aurora Memorial Library

Friends of Aurora Memorial Library Friends of Aurora Memorial Library created in 1984 is composed of dedicated & hardworking volunteers. They are open to members and the public.

Our meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday of the month in January, April, June, and October from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Currently, all meetings are scheduled in the lower-level gallery of the Aurora Memorial Library.

September is NATIONAL CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH! It was proclaimed in September 1990 by U.S. President George H.W. Bush (hellohope.com). The purpose is to raise awareness of the challenges children face with cancer. It also supports research and care initiatives. Did you know that while relatively rare, pediatric cancers are the leading cause of death from disease among children in the United States (Cancer.gov)? Unfortunately, this disease can progress rapidly in children. Also, even if beaten, this disease can have lifelong consequences that affect children and their families (Impactful Ninja). 💛

The excitement continues with these enjoyable WEDNESDAY programs in NOVEMBER at the AURORA MEMORIAL LIBRARY! The Beginners Mahjong instructions continue on both Wed. 11/04 and on Fri. 11/06. These are the adult training sessions that build on instructions given in October. For children 5-13 in age, there is a LEGO Free Build program on Wed. 11/18, from 5 pm - 6 pm. Make time to check out these opportunities to connect with others on WEDNESDAYS in OCTOBER at the AURORA MEMORIAL LIBRARY! There is a Lego Free Build for children (ages 5-13) on 10/07. There are two programs for adults - a Mahjong series of 4 meetings beginning 10/14, and the Aurora Reads! adult book club of 10/28. COMING SOON IN SEPTEMBER! There are more enjoyable WEDNESDAY programs at the AURORA MEMORIAL LIBRARY this month. Adults are invited to participate in the Aurora Reads! Book Club on 9/23 from 2 pm - 3 pm. "A Fall of Marigolds" by Susan Meissner will be discussed. For children (ages 5-13) there is the Candy Pumpkin Catapult design, build, and launch program on 9/30 from 4 pm - 6 pm. Click the individual images to learn more and access the registration links. Children (ages 0-5) and their families are meeting twice for FALL FAMILY STORYTIME from 11 am - 12 pm on 11/03 and 11/17. The Knit & Crochet Group for adults is meeting on 11/17 from 5:45 pm - 7:45 pm. The Killer Reads! group of true crime enthusiasts is meeting on 11/24 from 6 pm - 7 pm to discuss "The Trial of Lizzie Borden". There is still time to register for these relaxing and pleasant TUESDAY programs in OCTOBER at the AURORA MEMORIAL LIBRARY. For children (ages 0-5) and their families, Fall Family Storytime takes place on 10/06, 10/20, and 10/27. For adults, the Harry Potter themed Aurora Cooks! program takes place on 10/13. The Aurora Knit & Crochet Group meets in front of the fireplace on 10/20. True crime enthusiasts will enjoy the Killer Reads! discussion of "In Light of All Darkness" on 10/27.
