During last night’s Monthly Membership Meeting the newly re-elected Business Representatives took the oath of office and were sworn in by Local 701 President Joe Schaffer.

Directing Business Representative Mark Grasseschi, President Joe Schaffer and Business Representative Michael Burtner Jr. presented Local 701 member Nick Kawacin, from Joe Rizza Porsche a check for one year of Union dues.

Nick spoke to a technician working at Volkswagen of Orland Park and asked him to reach out to our organizer to get more information regarding the benefits of working under a Union contract which led to a first contract at Volkswagen.

If you know someone who is working in a non-union environment speak to them and explain the benefits you enjoy while working under your Union Contract. Ask them to call Mike Wendling (Organizer) at 708-828-2001, so he can explain what it takes to Unionize their work place. Be sure they let us know you referred them and if we are able to negotiate a first contract into their location you too will receive the same.

The bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act (S. 844) has passed in the House and is now in the Senate!

This piece of labor reform will end unfair delays in reaching a first contract for new unions, thereby ensuring that when workers exercise their legally protected right to vote to form a union, a collective bargaining agreement follows in a timely manner.
