Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 11, at TBonz Augusta beginning at 11:45 AM. Our featured speaker will be Ruth Mead from the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences and Phinizy Swamp Nature Park.
Ruth has been instrumental in developing and leading environmental education programs at Phinizy Swamp for more than two decades. Since starting as a volunteer in 2000, she has helped connect thousands of students, families, and community members to the natural world through hands-on learning experiences focused on wetlands, wildlife, conservation, and water stewardship.
She serves as a certified Georgia Master Naturalist Coordinator, is a member of the Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Advisory Board, and leads a wide variety of lifelong learning programs including field ornithology, forest ecology, and wetland education. Ruth also brings a strong scientific background to her role, holding a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from North Carolina State University and previously working in forest management for ten years before joining Phinizy.
What makes Ruth especially impactful is her ability to make nature accessible and engaging for everyone — whether she’s guiding school groups through the swamp, teaching adults about bird behavior and wildflowers, or inspiring the community to become better stewards of our environment.
We look forward to a great meeting and encourage everyone to attend.
