Ready to start one at your school? We can help! There is so much learning to learn in a simple yet rich garden bed and the time is ripe for growing school gardens in Maine! We would love to see a garden bed for every classroom in every school in the state, with support from administrators and community members, strong links to classroom learning standards, and abundant fresh produce for taste test

s and lunch trays. MSGN began as a program of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, offering assistance to educators since 2002. We became a 501(c)3 and hired a coordinator in 2013. We provide resources and services to help support new programs find start-up information and connections as well as help existing programs find the support they need to thrive. Our board members are volunteer leaders across a range of sectors, who join together to share their individual expertise in support of the success and expansion of school garden programs as a platform to connect young people to healthy food and outdoor environments. We are always looking for people to join our Board and Committees. We understand the challenges and strategies for success more fully because we have the perceptions of teachers, student counselors, farmers, cooperative extension, the department of agriculture, and others on our board. We'd love to hear how we can better serve you and would also be happy to share more information about what we do.

Registration is required, and space is limited. Register soon!

Soil management webinar from Johnny's Selected Seeds!

Soil management webinar from Johnny's Selected Seeds!

Healthy soil is the foundation of resilient farms, productive gardens, and a thriving planet.

Did you know roughly one-third of the world’s soils are degraded? And 95% of the food we eat comes directly or indirectly from soil.

As fertile soil is lost, land becomes less productive, putting our food systems and long-term health at risk.

This World Environment Day, we're recognizing the vital role soil health plays in supporting biodiversity, conserving water, and building long-term sustainability.

We can all play a part in protecting soil health! From increasing organic matter to improving structure and nutrient availability, every step taken below the surface has an impact above it.

Want to deepen your understanding of soil health and practical management strategies? Explore our Soil Health & Management webinar recording and resources for insights you can put into practice this season. Tap the link below to watch.
