Lung cancer risk extends beyond smoking. In a study of 2.8 million women, personal cancer history was linked to 88% higher lung cancer prevalence, while family history of lung cancer was linked to 140% higher prevalence. Screening guidelines have not changed, but future risk models may include personal and family cancer history.
Lung cancer screening in women may need expansion as new data link cancer history with increased lung cancer risk.
