Hearing Barry Manilow talk so plainly about it that they “went through my vocal cords” and that he’s still working to get his voice back four months later really stayed with me. Lung cancer doesn’t just affect your body. It can take away the very thing that makes you feel like yourself. Wishing him continued healing, and thinking of everyone living with this disease.

Nearly 83, Barry Manilow is recovering from cancer, preparing for a series of concerts, and releasing his first album of new songs in nearly 15 years, What a Time.

Barry Manilow’s story is a powerful reminder that lung cancer can change lives in an instant. After being diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer and undergoing surgery, he now faces something deeply personal: uncertainty about his voice, his career, and the future. His honesty about fear, recovery, and gratitude shines a light on what so many patients experience.

As he prepares for his upcoming farewell tour, Barry Manilow knows something is missing.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, the singer opened up about how being diagnosed with lung cancer and undergoing a left lung lobectomy has altered his voice.

New research from Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California suggests heavy ma*****na smoking may raise the risk of both small cell and non-small cell lung cancer, and daily ma*****na use was also linked to much higher rates of head and neck cancers. Researchers say the clearest concern is chronic, heavy smoking, while the risks from occasional use are still unclear. There is not yet a clear lung cancer link for edible ma*****na, and long-term data on va**ng are still limited.

Studies suggest heavy ma*****na smoking could raise cancer risk, but researchers are still working to understand the long-term effects and the role of dosage.
