SCRIPTURE
“The chief priests and the scribes heard this, and began seeking how to destroy Him; for they were afraid of Him, for the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching.”

OBSERVATION
The chief priests and scribes were the religious leaders of Israel. As the leaders they set the religious culture by what they encouraged and what they tolerated. These religious leaders allowed greedy merchants to abuse people in the Temple coming there to offer sacrifices to the Lord.
In tune with what He saw Father doing, Jesus came into the Temple and began to confront the greed by the merchants which the religious leaders were unwilling to address. Portions of the transactions in the Temple would ultimately line the pockets of the religious leaders. The greed of the religious leaders blinded them from seeing the abuse of those they were called to protect.
When Jesus partnered with Father to confront the greedy merchants He exposed the apathy of the religious leaders towards the people they were to shepherd, and they responded by scheming how they could kill Jesus and get the people back under their sway.
