DAV Transportation volunteer drivers provide much more than a ride, as noted in this post from DAV Department of New York.

“I figured it was just a ride. But it turned out to be way more than that.”

After one veteran stopped driving, every appointment came with the same worry: How am I going to get there?

That changed when they heard about the DAV transportation program. It became more than a ride. It became a connection, a conversation, and a reminder that they were not alone.

“For the first time in a while, I didn’t feel like I was doing all of this alone.”

DAVNY needs more volunteer drivers to help veterans get to the care they earned. A few hours of your time can mean so much to someone who has given so much of theirs.

Driving your car is pretty awesome privilege. Don't F it up over a few drinks... you know it's a holiday, you know you're going out, make a plan.

Loud booms... 99% of my veteran friends love them. But, there could be some that don't… Let your neighbors know at least 24 hours in advance before you reenact the beaches of Normandy.

You. Yes, you. You deserve to have a good weekend, and you are enough exactly as you are. No self-deprecation this weekend!

Last, but certainly not least… Show us pictures of your awesome time this weekend 🔥🔥

The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services is partnering with the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation and Northeast Delta Dental to provide FREE eye exams and glasses for eligible veterans and their dependents (ages 5 and older). Details and registration information are in their post below.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been made aware of a fraudulent message claiming that Veterans can receive free athletic shoes from VA. This message is NOT from the VA.

Scammers are using this tactic to collect personal information and potentially steal identities.

If you receive one of these messages:

❌ Do not click any links
❌ Do not provide personal information

If you believe you've received a fraudulent message, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Please help protect fellow Veterans by sharing this information. Stay vigilant and always verify unexpected offers before responding.

TBT - The van shown in this 2015 image is the oldest vehicle currently serving in our fleet: a 2013 Ford E-350 12-passenger van. It was also our first van to sport the updated wrap with the new DAV color scheme. This 13-year-old workhorse continues to reliably transport veterans from the Bath-Brunswick/Midcoast area, thanks to the meticulous maintenance and loving care provided by volunteer driver John Starbird, who has been the principal driver for many years. This van will be retired and replaced in 2027.

Images from the Brunswick-Topsham Memorial Day Parade, May 25, 2026. Due to inclement weather, some Scouts who would otherwise march rode on the DAV float, and several members stayed dry in our van. (After the parade, Frank rounded a few up for a photo op.)
