What a great Scout and Venturer!
Agency Spotlight: 🌟Boy Scouts of America: Georgia-Carolina Council🌟
Michael Tiedman, who is an Aiken County resident joined the Boy Scouts in 2011 in Pack 351 in Langley. There he earned if Arrow of Light Award and became a member of Scouts BSA Troop 351 in 2015.
Since joining the troop Michael has had the opportunity to earn 36 different merit badges and attend summer camp in several different Scout camps. He learned to swim, sail, scuba and raft. He studied Wilderness Survival, Citizenship, Nature, Personal Finance, orienteering, search and rescue, lifesaving, emergency preparedness and first aid.
He got to serve his Troop as a Patrol Leader, leading a group of 6-8 Scouts, then as Senior Patrol Leader managing several Patrol Leaders. He was elected into the Bob White Lodge, our Honor Camper program where he excelled and became the Lodge Chief. This youth position puts the individual who is elected to lead the lodge operation for a year, and also have a voting seat on the Council Executive Board. He attended two National Jamborees, once as a Scout and once with the National Order of the Arrow Service Team as staff.
He went to the National Sea Base in the Florida Keys and attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) in Knoxville Tennessee. In 2023 he was elected to serve as the Section 5 Order of the Arrow Chief. This position tasks him with leading a regional Order of the Arrow program and major weekend event in the spring of 2024. He will also serve on the NOAC staff in 2024.
Locally he has served on Scout Camp Staff as well as a lifeguard at the Nature & Adventure Center Day Camp program for two seasons. He is certified in BSA Lifeguard, Erd Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR.
Along Micheals Scouting Trail he became an Eagle Scout and a man. He will begin working in late October with the Americorps Vista Program with the CSRA United Way and the Georgia Carolina Council.
Scouting delivers life changing experiences to youth throughout the CSRA every week with over 700 registered volunteers (mentors) working with our youth. The support of United Way makes these opportunities a reality.
