The Maine outdoor and public safety communities are mourning the loss of four remarkable men whose lives and legacies touched countless people across our state.

The Maine Professional Guides Association extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, coworkers, and communities connected to Cliff Stevens, owner of Moxie Outdoor Adventures; Dave Naddeau, co-founder and owner of Magic Falls Rafting Company; Joshua Tibbetts of the Maine Warden Service; and Andrew Cross of the Morrill Fire Department.

The rafting and guiding world has lost two true legends. Cliff Stevens and Dave Naddeau helped shape the culture, spirit, and reputation of whitewater rafting in Maine. Through their leadership, passion, and love for the outdoors, they introduced generations of visitors and fellow Mainers to the beauty, excitement, and power of Maine’s rivers. Their impact on The Forks region and the broader outdoor recreation community will endure for generations.

We also pause to recognize the extraordinary service of Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts. Those who serve in Maine’s Warden Service carry a unique responsibility — protecting both the people and the wild places that define our state. As a pilot, Joshua served with courage and dedication in some of the most challenging environments imaginable, helping support search and rescue missions, conservation efforts, and public safety across Maine’s vast north woods and waterways. His commitment to service represents the very best of Maine’s outdoor and law enforcement traditions.

Likewise, we honor Andrew Cross for his commitment to serving his community through the Morrill Fire Department. Firefighters willingly step toward difficult and dangerous situations in order to protect others, and that selflessness deserves our deepest gratitude and respect. Andrew’s service reflects the quiet strength and sacrifice found in communities all across Maine.

These individuals represented the very best of our state — leadership, humility, courage, service, and a deep commitment to others. Their absence is already deeply felt, but their legacies will continue to live on through the countless lives they impacted.

During this difficult time, we ask for everyone to please join us in having these individuals and their family members & friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Maine Guide Education Fund Seeking Campers!

Students and families seeking financial assistance to attend outdoor and educational summer camps in Maine are encouraged to submit an appeal letter to the Maine Guide Education Fund.

Appeal letters should briefly explain the student’s interest in attending camp, the impact the experience would have on them, and any financial circumstances that make assistance necessary.

We encourage students to share their personal goals, passions for the outdoors, and how the opportunity would help them grow.

Letters may be mailed to the Maine Guide Education Fund, 97 Stoneybrook Way, Hermon, ME 04401, or submitted electronically to [email protected]

Great photo from our board member Andrea McLean

Wells got her first turkey today with her dad Joe. Wells got up at 4:45am to go on this hunt, and shot her first tom with her .410.

Wells finished her hunt and still made the school bus!

Congratulations Wells! Your are quite the turkey hunter! Love to see kids willing to put in the time and early morning hours. No app can replace this!

LD 2054 Passes!

MPGA Members and Friends,

Today, the Maine Legislature passed LD 2054 (the “moose lodge tag bill”) overwhelmingly and sent it to the Governor’s desk for approval. This victory comes after many months of hard work, of members taking the time to show up and stand up in Augusta, and strengthening our relationships with our partner organizations and legislators.

HUGE THANKS goes to so many people, in particular, Representative Steve Wood, Representative Sally Cluchey, Representative Jim Thorne, Representative Rick Mason, Representative Bill Bridgeo, Senator Stacey Guerin, Senator Russell Black, Senator Anne Carney, Senator Rick Bennett, and Senator Chip Curry. Other supporters are too countless to name every single one. Our appreciation extends to every legislator that supported this legislation.

We’d also like to especially thank David Trahan and the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, and the Maine Sporting Camp Association for their continued partnership. MPGA and MSCA and SAM are great allies and we extend our gratitude to them. If you aren’t a member of these organizations- please consider supporting all of them and doing so today! We have your back in Augusta!

And to the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, thank you for taking the time to hear us and work with us.

Congrats and thank you to all who participated in this effort. Hard work and good work does pay off.
