MOCO - Motivational Services

MOCO operates 24/7 PNMI group homes and supervised apartment programs for persons recovering from severe mental illness.

We also operate the LINC Peer Support Center and oversee Peer Services at Riverview Psychiatric Center. Since 1976, MOCO has assisted adults recovering from significant mental illness living in the cities and towns of Kennebec County in Central Maine. We help people meet their basic need for improving the quality of their lives by providing opportunities for safe and affordable housing, opportunit

ies to pursue employment and education, whole health care management, care coordination and on-going assessment, personal avocation and recreation connections, and development and maintenance of natural support relationships in a community within Kennebec County

Motivational Services is a not-for-profit corporation which conforms to the rules and regulations of the IRS Code Section 501(c)(3).

The good news is that Benda Doyen will stay on at MOCO as CRMA instructor, even though she is retiring from her nursing role. Today she enjoyed lunch at The Olive Garden with the rest of the nursing team. Thank you Brenda for always being such a supportive and positive friend to all of us at MOCO. We wish you all the best in this next chapter.

MOCO is proud to support Mental Health Awareness month. We remain hopeful that public stigma around mental health treatment will one day be eradicated, and that mental health issues will be judged no differently than physical health issues. We stand in solidarity with all of our fellow providers and celebrate the commitment and passion of mental health workers everywhere!

MOCO is excited to announce the Elwyn McArthur has been promoted to Peer Support Supervisor at RPC! Elwyn has been outstanding in his role in peer support for the last seven years, and has made such a positive impact of the lives of so many persons needing his reassuring and empathetic manner of caring. This promotion could not be more fitting. Congratulations Elwyn!!

MOCO is proud to recognize the one and only Thomas Poulson for his 20 years of service and support to peers. Today he was embraced by his colleagues at MOCO and OPS to mark the occasion. Unfortunately, Alicia Hafford, who planned and organized the event was unable to attend. Bobby-Jo Bechard presented Thomas with a plaque with the following inscription:

“Your dedication to the people you support
has always come from the heart.
Your kindness, compassion, and patience
have made a lasting difference in countless lives.
You show up every day with integrity and care,
inspiring our team and carrying us through.
Thank you for 20 years of meaningful work.”

Congratulations to you Tom, you are an inspiration to us all!!

We may be a little late in posting, but it’s never too late to recognize Christmas time creativity! MOCO congratulates the residents and staff of Stone Street Apartments for their creativity and winning the 2025 Christmas Tree Contest. Not even the Grinch could steal their enthusiasm! 🙂

MOCO conducted a Letters Against Isolation event, and we exceeded our agency’s pledge by making 419 cards!

Western Ave went above and beyond, making 151 cards with 100% participation amongst all staff and residents. The fact that the dining room table was transformed into a card making station and that everyone got involved was truly heartwarming. The program showed amazing things that happen when people work together. One of the Western residents who normally avoids group activities became immersed in the project, which brought immense pride. That resident created dozens of cards. This shows us that you never know what is going to motivate someone and get them involved. For creating the highest number of cards, Western Ave will be given a pizza party!!

Stone Street Apartments contributed 26!

Green Street contributed 14!
